It's not that Dean's ungrateful for the rescue attempt, but he's not going to let some angel turn his little brother into a Servant of Heaven, so thanks but no thanks, buddy. Castiel is going to get the job done, even if he has to roll Dean up in a carpet like a burrito to do it. Teaser: Cas' fingers are still on his skin, soft compared to the carpet and the operating table, cool compared to the flush of fever and infection. The wooden floor of the train car trundles beneath them, sparking a thousand little hurts as the cuts and bruises and aching joints are jostled. Castiel presses his fingers deep into the wound. Dean feels it like a cold burn, spidering out along the veins, following the blood poisoning and sluicing it out. When the wound is clean, gaping open larger than before but with pale edges, fat and muscle marbled sweetly beneath, he pinches it gently closed, like crimping the edge of a pie.

Ineffectual Healing

It's a whumpfic. Cas gets hurt by a witch and can't heal himself, his grace keeps him from getting killed but beyond that his vessel is so badly injured that he can't even sit up. Most of the fic is Dean doing semi-improvised medical procedures on Cas in a motel room to try and curb Cas' discomfort. There are three main "stabs": Dean suturing Cas' chest wounds with a sewing needle, Dean injecting Cas with painkillers, and a surprise third stab (which is ironically the least interesting stab in the fic).
