jfc everyone i don’t care how you feel about Alec Baldwin but there’s like a 99% chance this accident wasn’t his fault
if it comes out in a week that he jammed the damn gun on purpose then by all means get mad, but as it stands now? it’s almost certainly the result of negligence or incompetence on the part of the weapons master, not on the actor. it’s NEVER the actor’s job to ensure a weapon is safe to use! they’re not trained to do that! a two minute google search will tell you this!
begging screaming and pleading everyone to stop with the weird schadenfreude (“haha, bad person shot someone i knew it would happen” type posts) and reflect on why you think that the accidental loss of a person’s life is funny, relatable, or anything other than a preventable tragedy. fuck’s sake.
For what it’s worth, the shape of the situation so far seems to be that a non-union props master did their job inappropriately, resulting in a dangerous situation that went bad in the hands of actor Alec Baldwin. This comes after a hellish production, with cinematographer Halyna Hutchins noted in particular as having felt the need to argue against the producers for better working conditions on behalf of her crew, and many IATSE union members being replaced on the production with non-union scabs, at the behest of the producers.
It was the producers of the film who put an under-trained scab in charge of ensuring the safety of firearms on set. It was the producers of the film who effectively put a loaded gun in actor Alec Baldwin’s hands, and it was the producers of the film who should be held accountable for the death of Halyna Hutchins.
There is no excuse for jokes at the expense of those involved in this situation, and it is because I know how people are about these things, how inclined they are to take this as a greenlight to resume that behavior, that I have said this before noting that Alec Baldwin is one of six producers on the film, and as one of two men responsible for the story of the film, likely the head of the production team and responsible, in large part, for the decisions that led to this incident.
