A relic of a previous life...

So it’s 2016 I know, and we all have equal rights and whatever, sure. Of course we do. But International Queer Heartthrob™ Kate McKinnon was just asked in a Ghostbusters interview about her character’s sexuality and someone off camera very quickly told her that she wasn’t legally allowed to answer that question. Not LEGALLY ALLOWED to even HINT that a FICTIONAL CHARACTER in a MOVIE… MIGHT NOT BE STRAIGHT. She had to sit there, at the new height of her success, her career breakthrough, and still be told that she’s less than. And that’s…well, heartbreaking. It makes me feel a bit sick. Sony have literally hired a lesbian and then contracted her to not talk lesbian. What kind of big bowl of fuck off is that.

So Sony? You may want to perpetually portray worlds on screen in which we do not exist, but in the real one? Oh, we exist. In fact, thousands of teenage girls across the world have just been Holtzmanned. Which is a new euphemism for realising you fancy girls. Screw you.

*licks ghost gun and walks away*

*comes back for pringles*

*leaves again*

this is so important. you know kate wants to talk about it. pretty much everyone has seen the gifset where she says she doesn’t want to be some straight girl in movies, she wants to feel like she’s doing it for her people. when asked about holtzmann’s sexuality, the answer she has to give is, “it’s not addressed in the film.” do you have any idea how heartbreaking that is?

Whaaaaaat? No. Ugh. I hate this so much. Why… ? How is this ok? Do you have a link to that interview?

relevant bit starts at about 2:30, although the whole interview’s interesting

let’s be real abt ghostbusters for a second because it is not even debatable that after the girls save the city and holtzmann’s face is on television they get 200 calls a day like “there’s a ghost in my bed and i need jillian holtzmann to come and take care of it”

Obviously, I really enjoyed the new Ghostbusters, and I’ve been thinking about how much a movie like that would’ve meant to their characters when they were kids. I’m so excited for the kids who’ll grow up with this film as a part of their childhood! So here are Holtzmann, Abby, Erin, and Patty as junior high schoolers, growing up as geeks in their own respective, delightful ways.

I don’t usually have time for fan art but my drawing hand’s been giving me trouble, so I wanted to try a looser style that doesn’t strain my muscles quite so much. Perfect opportunity to do something different, right?
