I think it could be a double bluff on Fyodor's part like what if he did have a breakdown and gain clarity for a moment but then control was seized again from him and he lied to cover up everything by saying he was 'just kidding'

what if fyodor's being controlled, either by fukuchi or someone even further behind the scenes? we saw that note in russian a chapter or two ago, maybe he's trying to break through it or something and he's not actually evil? kinda a long stretch, but either way i am SO hyped for this the plot is thickening so splendidly

EDIT: wait wait wait holy shit ok. so in the last panel he's asking, "right now what year is it". hes absolutely being controlled. maybe he got turned into a vampire or something similar??? holy shit the fyodor we've known might not even be the true one, he might become a good guy in the end or something/????

Those were around my on the spot theories, too!

Because we always think of Fyodor over all, trumping everyone including maybe even Fukuchi, so it would be a HUGE twist if suddenly there were someone over him and the all-powerful all-knowing Fyodor we know barely even exists at all.
