Rosa, you are definitely not the only one thinking this is the worst death in BSD. I'm finding it very hard to believe that Fyodor would have fallen for Chuuya's act, too. I can only hope there's some kind of swerve, or at least that the manga goes differently, because this ending for Fyodor is just BAD. Yes, let's cry together 😭😭
Aaaaaaa, thank you, I feel less alone now!!
Yes, you're totally right, this is a bad ending for Fyodor, who I personally find to be a very important character. And ever since I watched the trailer on monday, I find it very weird that Nikolai just gave the antidote to Fyodor like that? If he wants to kill him, why would he do that? Also, I find it a bit weird that the only reason why Chuuya even came to Meursault was to come to Dazai's rescue, by faking being a vampire? Unless I'm forgetting something, I don't see why he would have put on an act and helped Fyodor. I don't know what to think anymore about that finale...
Anyway, I do not believe that this finale is Asagiri's writing. Like I said in my previous post, I sincerely hoped that the next chapters would be different and that if Fyodor really does die, it will be something better (but I don't wish him that ;;;)
I forgot to add this!
Nikolai wanted to know Fyodor's ability right? That's also something that doesn't match up with the previous episodes. He didn't get to know it and for some reason, he doesn't seem to mind? That's quite a huge plot hole right there.
So, yeah... I really didn't like that finale 😔
I think there's a few signs that this isn't the end of the story:
- We never find out what Fyodor's ability is, which is a heavily emphasized part of him
- Gogol is just let loose into the wild; so he's still at large
- Gogol has Fyodor's arm (where's the rest of the body? Smashed to smithereens, or...?)
- Sigma never got a satisfying narrative conclusion where he either A) fails to find belonging or B) more likely, does. Since he's Asagiri's favorite recent character, I'd be surprised if he just laid there to rot, especially since he officially knows everything about Fyodor now, so much so that the information overwhelmed him to death
- Just before Fyodor dies, he compares Dazai to a "man." What man?! Who?!
I think it's safe to say we haven't heard the last of him... Which is too bad, because I'm sick of him messing with everyone!
