TWIN PEAKS: Season One (1990) Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost
There’s a sort of evil out there. Something very, very strange in these old woods. Call it what you want. A darkness, a presence. It takes many forms but… its been out there for as long as anyone can remember and we’ve always been here to fight it.
TWIN PEAKS (1990 - 1991)
So now the sadness comes — the revelation. There is a depression after an answer is given. It was almost fun not knowing. Yes, now we know. At least we know what we sought in the beginning. But there is still the question: why? And this question will go on and on until the final answer comes. Then the knowing is so full, there is no room for questions.

There is a sadness in this world, for we are ignorant of many things. Yes, we are ignorant of many beautiful things — things like the truth. So sadness, in our ignorance, is very real. The tears are real. What is this thing called a tear? There are even tiny ducts — tear ducts — to produce these tears should the sadness occur. Then the day when the sadness comes — then we ask: “Will this sadness which makes me cry — will this sadness that makes me cry my heart out — will it ever end?” The answer, of course, is yes. One day the sadness will end.

There are many stories in Twin Peaks — some of them are sad, some funny. Some of them are stories of madness, of violence. Some are ordinary. Yet they all have about them a sense of mystery — the mystery of life. Sometimes, the mystery of death. The mystery of the woods. The woods surrounding Twin Peaks.

“We knew it was gonna be something special. We just didn’t know how. So when it blossomed like it did, entering into the consciousness of the world, it was a little overwhelming.” - Kyle MacLachlan

May I have your attention, please? This is Principal Wolchezk. I am… deeply saddened to have to tell you that early this morning, your classmate Laura Palmer was found dead. This is a terrible moment for all of us. For all of us who knew her— Her friends... her family. It is very important that we all try to help each other through this difficult time. The police have asked me to ask each of you, if you have any information about Laura’s activities after school yesterday or yesterday evening. Please come forward. I am dismissing all classes for the day, but before we leave, I would like to ask each of you to join me in a moment of silence for Laura... and her dear memory.

“The role of Cooper was pretty much on the page. All there, David and Mark Frost had written just a wonderfully complex, quirky, eccentric character. Cooper is my favorite character... that I’ve ever played. He’s got a complexity to him in a way of looking at the world, that I can understand and relate to. He’s, you know, powerful without having to demonstrate it. He’s compassionate, he’s got tremendous empathy, he’s incredibly smart.” - Kyle MacLachlan x
“In the beginning, many years ago, Mark and I, as if lost in the wilderness, as it always is in the beginning, and then we seemed to find some mountain, and we began to climb, and when we rounded the mountain, we entered a deep forest, and going through the forest for a time, the trees began to thin. And when we came out of the woods, we discovered this small town called Twin Peaks. And we got to know many of the people in Twin Peaks, and the people who visited Twin Peaks, and we discovered a mystery, and within this mystery were many other mysteries. And we discovered a world, and within this world, there were other worlds, and that’s how it started, and that’s what brought us here today. The story continues. I see it as a film, and film in parts is what people would experience, and it was a joyful, fantastic trip with this great crew and great cast… It’s pretty amazing how we all fell back in together. And it’s a family. I’m sure you here all hear this – “Oh, we’re like a family going down the road. All these actors are so wonderful. The crew is so great.” But the crew in Twin Peaks was even more wonderful than those others. And the cast was even greater and more wonderful.” - David Lynch on Twin Peaks: The Return
