CJ Cregg is my favorite character I’ve ever played because she’s someone that I aspire to. I wish I could be CJ. People come up to me all the time and say they changed their majors in college, they went into public service because of CJ — and I get it. She’s a wonderful character who is not afraid to speak truth to power, and is a woman in a traditionally male-populated arena in the White House, and she was given the president’s ear. It’s a great role to champion women. She’s an amazing character. - Allison Janney, 2020

another missed opportunity in the west wing? in the finale they mention that helen and abbey ride to the inauguration together and i desperately wish we’d seen them interact in canon

#look i think theyre very similar in theyre reluctance about making their family into like a political spectacle and their anger and their #strong opinions etc but i fell like helen is more about really hating the spotlight rather than the politics and i dont think abbey #minds the attention as much (usually) #and for both of them its a lot about safety and about having like. time for family #but like theres that fight liz and jed have where liz says that neither of them made time for family enough... #and theres the fact that as far as we know helen is a stay at home mom while abbeys career was a HUGE part of her identity (i can hear the #way she says 'because im a doctor' in dead irish writers) #and idk those differences and similarities are neat! #(i would say it is partially tho a product of the writers-- and a lot of the characters! not really knowing what to do with helen #or what to do with a first lady at all #and a lot of the relationship of josh matt helen is echos of leo jed abbey which i dont mind and in fact like #even if it does feel a little lazy....) #my point being i think helen is occasionally more subtle than abbey in her anger and activism etc #and i think shes more... hm. reluctant to the attention and the like. career aspects of it? #but i dont think shes less political or more protective or anything... #and i REALLY wouldve liked to see them talk #theyre also both so funny... i mean every side female character in tww is just like. angry and funny but i eat that shit up bc i love it
