That’s the first time he’s ever called her Abbie.

I sincerely do not understand this Nick Hawley thing. If we are supposed to be rooting for Nick and Abbie to hook up, then why:

1. Have they written him as a self-serving jerk from jump?

2. Would they have had him be in a previous, possibly still ongoing, relationship with Jenny? (That is not cute. That is not attractive. That is not anything that Abbie would be interested in. That is not anything that sisters who love each other and are trying to repair their relationship would even consider participating in. That is pure nonsense.)

3. If he were sincere in his attempts to make Abbie interested in him, hasn’t he done anything besides stare at her without her knowledge or invitation; used her and her friends to try and further his own selfish causes; or shown any amount of usefulness that did not come with a price tag?

To answer these questions.

1) Because flawed characters are more interesting and provide for greater character arcs. Watching perfect people would become boring fast. Even Abbie was a delinquent before Corbin took her under his wing. Knowing Abbie’s not-so-perfect background enhances her current character. Introducing a morally dubious Hawley into the selfless Team Witness fold was one of the better plot moves IMO. Hawley’s contrast with Crane in particular has been fun to watch and made me realize how similar the 4 main characters are in terms of morality and temperament. Hawley is a wild card who shakes things up a bit.

2) Obstacles, challenges and drama are what fuel most stories and keep plots interesting.

3)  “Staring at her without knowledge or invitation” is also known as “noticing she’s attractive and admiring from afar”. It’s commonly practiced by the species known as human — both male and female alike.

Some of the non-selfish things Nick has done without expectation of payment:

A lot of the ire directed at Hawley is OTT. I don’t think the writers expect you to like Nick — at least not right off the bat. Nick’s been pretty up front in being about the coin and Jennie has hinted that he’s a player. To date there is no evidence he’s coming between the sisters and he’s provided a lot of humor. I’d like to see where his character goes. For me he’s a keeper.

i’ve been watching Sleepy Hollow since started, and i pretty much thought that Abbie should be with Crane, but, here is the thing. By now we all saw how much Crane loves Katrina, of course, they have some shit going on right now, but they love each other, and i don’t think would be right that Crane end up with Abbie, they’re friends, and respect and protect each other, people are always complaining how others can’t understand boys and girls relationship, but there it is, i think Crane and Abbie are the best representation of the strongest friendship that i ever seen, so no i don’t ship them anymore, how ever i became to ship Nick Hawley and Abbie Mills, (but what about Jenni?) well i love Jenni, but i really like her with Capitan, anyways. Abbie and Nick, make perfect sense to me, they’re the two different sides of the same coin.

I LOVE hero/anti-hero dynamics in tv shows. So much potential in terms of character development.
