karl-schwering-platz // köln lindenthal

stained glass window and sgraffito on the house of a catholic student fraternity. the fraternity moved into the post-war modern house in 1959, around which time it is estimated that it was built. the house thus belongs to the large number of buildings in lindenthal that were built in the mid-century era and still characterise lindenthal today. it is one of the simpler buildings, with the only decoration being the small sgraffito and the windows.

vienna is full of art in architecture from the post-war era, and one has the feeling that this type of wall art is appreciated and therefore cherished in the city. the type of façade art is very diverse in style, material and content, there are mosaics, sgraffito or full sculptural representations.

sankt anna haus // köln lindenthal

sgraffito of st. anna from circa 1954

artist unknown

the former st. anna hospital, which is now a care home, is located between uniklinik and lindenthaler gürtel. the neo-gothic main building was spared destruction during the war. in the 1950s, a simple, functional new building was added on which this hidden byzantine-style sgraffito is concealed. The unknown artist has created a really beautiful work that conveys a sense of security and thus also refers to the function of the building.
