I didn't have decent TV when this show aired, but it sounds like she's just dealing with comphet. She dated those boys because she felt like she *had* to be with a boy because she's a girl, and never considered a relationship with the girl(s) she liked because obviously girls can't date girls. If she ever realizes that's bullshit she'll realize that's why she wasn't into any of those boys and hopefully find a nice gay girl to hook up with.

A huge part of Jenny's arc was learning to let go of wanting to be seen as normal and instead being proud of what made her special, so I can absolutely buy her comphetting

The background was fairly challenging, especially when trying to translate from reference photos to the show's art style. The rows of tulips themselves took a bit of creative brainstorming.

Hopefully I was able to nail the heavily Art Deco-influenced look and maintain the balance between graphic without being too simple and detailed without being too busy.

MLaaTR section of Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons!

Thinking about the parallels between Jenny Wakeman and Danny Phantom now. They're both teen superheroes doing double duty with school. Their parents are all scientists who inadvertently gave them their powers and forced them to become superheroes, one by accident and the other on purpose. The superheroing is a very reluctant "I wish I was anywhere else right now" thing for both of them. They both have a rival who is purple. I have brain problems

Y'know I think teenage robot might've actually been my favorite show as a kid. Like straight up. The premise is just really strong. Teenage superhero robot girl. Cool action? Check. Relatable fish-out-of-water protag? You got it. The girlness of it all? Yeah. There weren't many shows like that. And the art was always really strong. I loved all of Jenny's gadgets and how they'd have those elaborate transformation sequences as she deploys them. I dunno where I'm going with this. It was good. Wish there was more. I miss her
