you guys suck at math
all of the numbers that are divisible by 17 sound so absurd. 51? 68? 85? ridiculous. 102? absolutely not. and don't even get me started on 119
34 and 136 i can believe, but i feel like i shouldn’t. it’s 102 in a trench coat
did we just run out of posts to make
no, i haven't made a post about every number yet
I'm sorry to let you know that 100,000,001 (one hundred million and one) is divisible by 17 and because of that, so is every 16-digit number that is four digits repeated four times e.g. 1234123412341234
This evil. This is an evil post
Primary school math time! 😱
It depends whether you think 4 ÷ 2 × 2 is (4 ÷ 2) × 2 = 4 or 4 ÷ (2 × 2) = 1.
Remember: the order of operations taught to children is different in the USA and the UK.
- In the UK, division comes before multiplication (BODMAS) so 24 ÷ 3 x 4 = 8 * 4 = 32
- In the USA, multiplication comes before division (PEMDAS) so 24 ÷ 3 x 4 = 24 ÷ 12 = 2
This is why these sorts of questions can cause endless arguments.
As a mathematician, I can tell you the correct answer is "write it as fraction with the relevant two terms on top or underneath so it's unambiguous"
(NB: BODMAS = "Brackets, other, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction"; PEMDAS = "Parenthesis, exponentiation, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. The first two items refer to the same thing)
that is not correct. division and multiplication are the same priority in both countries, the acronym is just written differently to make it easier to remember, which clearly didn't work
NOW THE CORRECT ONE WHAT IS
wanna see exactly HOW bad tumblr is at math so tell me
Not me looking at this and realizing I've forgotten fucking everything I ever knew about math
2/4 is the same as 1/2 so maybe the answer is 1/3 + 1/2 = 2/5????
i learned of a 34-year-old Japanese mathematics professor who decided to host his lectures on… Pornhub.
His earnings of €250,000 per year stem from the fact that even though many may not be interested in the subject, they are nonetheless curious about his presence and attempt to watch the video, generating views.
thinking about the time a prof told us that in real research mathematics it's fine to be slow, speed itself is not essential, as long as you can find it within yourself to make consistent unyielding inexorable forward progress, like the time some guy stole an M60A3 tank and terrorized a suburban neighborhood with it, said guy wasn't going that fast but plowed through cars and telephone poles and shit no problem. i'm not kidding that's what he said, that's the metaphor he used, he told us that the act of mathematics is like the 1995 san diego tank rampage
nobody gets me like they get me
That's nice 🙂
The interesting thing is that there are only so many different shapes that can tile a plane! Aka cover a plane completely without holes or overlap but all tiles are the same shape. In 2015 we only had 15 different shapes :) - regarding complex pentagons, there are more basic shapes, like squares and triangles, or complex shapes, like hexagons, that fill the plane.
