So I have an instagram where I post "creepy" pics I take in antique stores (honestly I love them all & I dont think theyre creepy) and now I'm getting strangers asking to appraise their old vintage dolls. I cant do it - they're all trash. Like I love them all but a composite doll that's obvi an madame Alex rip off from the 40s with no eyes, hair, teeth, or body! Its worth nothing and they get offended when I tell them this, Sorry I needed to vent about it lol
That sounds awesome - the antique store photos! I get you, ah. Some people think old = valuable, but that obviously isn't always true. I'll post photos of cracked and broken dolls, doll heads, etc, if I think the photo has artistic value, but I personally wouldn't buy or collect them.Restringing dolls is easy with practice, so that's an easily fixed problem. But yeah, if a doll has major crazing, cracks, paint loss, hair loss, etc, you have to find someone who can and has the time to repair them. You're usually not looking at much money in those cases. Doll heads in poor condition might be good for someone wanting to practice doll restoration on non-valuable dolls. Again, next to no monetary value, but they could be put to use by someone.
For that anon, send the post number! Open the post's permanent URL and look at the number after post/ Do this because tumblr doesn't let you send links!
Ah, thanks for saying this, because I completely forgot! :} But that anon is likely long gone, unless they follow and happen to see this response.
Do you know where I can get the blonde head doll in the pink dress on your picture?
I've posted so many blonde haired dolls in pink dresses that I don't have a clue as to which one you were asking about here. =/ If I'm sent a photo link, I could likely identify most of the dolls I've posted on here.
I just found your blog and I adore it. I love my mother's and my aunt's old dolls and your blog reminds me of their dolls so much.
Thank you, if you happen to see this reply. :} ♡
Ahhh your blog is so pretty!! I wish I had all the dolls these people have! How many dolls do you own?
Thank you for your message! I’m sure you asked this months ago by now, but I’m just now back to posting on this blog.
I’ll ramble a bit, because I’ve never shared my love of dolls and collection history on here.
I currently own 22 dolls, but I only have 14 of those on display. My main collection (the 14) are composition dolls from the 1940s (or late 1930s) and a few 1950s hard plastic dolls. I’m planning on expanding my collection when I have money saved up. Vintage doll collecting can be a rather expensive hobby, honestly.
When I first started collecting dolls, I was into big eyed and quirky dolls from the 1960s. I eventually sold off my collection (which was large and quite fantastic for that decade of dolls. I wish I still had a photo to share.) My doll interests changed after I started collecting again, I suppose.
I appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of French & German antique bisque dolls, but those are usually very expensive so I’ve never owned one. I’m far more knowledgeable about dolls from the 1940s-60s, because I have personally collected those and researched a lot. My mom also collects dolls of a different size from the 1950s-early 60s.
I’m going to hopefully get a couple of lovely, original boudoir dolls to sit in my room eventually as well.
I’ll post a photo of my main collection soon for anyone interested. I’d also love to interact with people on here more often, rather than only posting photos. :}
