My journey into becoming a transgender man started with a game of Dungeons and Dragons. I had already begun questioning my identity, and DnD provided me with a no judgment zone to experiment. If I played a male character, my friends referred to me as a male for two hours a week. I thought that I would grow tired of it and decide that this was just some phase. Instead, I loved how it made me feel and I began to go deeper into learning about myself.
The subject of this piece is that character I created. His name is Valthos Whitla, and over the years, Valthos has always been a way for me to experiment with who I am, both in gender and sexuality. This year, I made him a transgender man just like myself. He is an extension of myself, and just like Valthos, I am unashamed of who I am. I’m proud of the man I’ve become and no one can stop me from being myself.
Happy Pride, everyone <3
