Where I’m From
Where I’m From
I am from airplane rides
From accents and funny words
I am from laughter in the kitchen
And trying to pronounce words that I don’t understand
I am from growing up fast
And what is that in your lunchbox?
I am from two separate worlds split down the middle
From distinctly American and distinctly not
I am from cousins and second cousins and third cousins
From playing in the backyard and staying out too late
I am from two week long vacations
Where I see the family I belong too
I am from passports and customs forms
From a small village with a big house
I am from a language I can not speak
But a family I can belong to
