Women’s March 2017
Monday, two days after the biggest March for civil rights I have ever been a part of. I ponder the actions of those around me and their words. It’s not just a regular Monday. This March, it’s not just another March. It can’t be.
What have I learned?
As a millennial, there’s no pressing reality where our actions and our words are more harshly a cause of division. I’m an immigrant, first generation. In what seems like ages ago and yet not really, I have been illegal, have not spoken the same language in absolutely critical circumstances, have been helpless, have been abused my men, verbally and physically, have had to understand unrecognizable surroundings, and yet, I’m not any more or less than the girl next door. What we have been doing hasn’t been working. We all occupy a very special place of responsibility in the world. And as I struggle to make sense of all this I land on the idea that we as creatures on this planet are disabled to address the complexities of our reality.
We move, that is, we feel, that is, we create, that is, we must.
What have you learned? Let's talk.
