We need to thank the Navajo a nation! They all got out and voted with no cars and few polling places- their population was enough to swing BOTH Arizona and New Mexico

This is Navajo organiser Allie Young and her "voting squad" on the way to the polls. They rode 10 miles to vote early!

The largest tribe in the United States could not prove it was “famous” enough to win a trademark case against the hipster fashion giant.

The Navajo Nation lost two counts in a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Urban Outfitters because the tribe’s trademark is not “famous” enough, the court siding with the fashion giant’s argument that “Navajo” is a generic term for a style or design.

The Indigenous tribe—the largest in the United States—had to prove that the term “Navajo” is “widely recognized by the general consuming public of the United States” to move forward with the trademark dilution case, which few courts have been able to prove, said New Mexico’s District Judge Bruce Black on Friday.

Another photo of the Navajos banning the swastika.

The document they are signing starts off: “Because the above ornament, which has been a sign of friendship among our forefathers for many centuries has been desecrated recently by another nation of peoples.”

[second paragraph] “Therefore it is resolved that henceforth from this date on and forever more our tribes renounce the use of the emblem commonly known today as the swastika or fylfot on our blankets, baskets, art objects, sandpaintings and clothing.”

“But I’m using it in it’s ORIGINAL meaning!”

Nope.

My respect and my heart goes out to the Navajo nation for the willing amputation of a symbol that belonged to them. I had no idea.

There are variations of the swastika all over the world. Hitler ruined it for a loooooot of people.

Wow.

I had no idea the Navajo people did this. To renounce the use of an important symbol from their heritage is a very, very strong gesture.

I am humbled by this act. My heart goes out to all peoples who used this symbol as an emblem and had it ruined by the Nazis.
