DC Studios, if only

In an ideal world, we would have DC Studios ran by Dreamworks and headed by James Gunn with a storygroup consisting of Paul Dini, Mark Waid, Greg Rucka or Gail Simone to help balance out the tone of the movies between dark, gritty and lightheartedness and to keep the characters as they should be portrayed in the movies as they are in the comics. And considering that Dreamworks has always been Anti-Disney, what better home for DC than Dreamworks.

The DC movies would be free from Studio Interference, no killing a Cinematic Universe with an actual plan and replacing it with studio mandates and they would actually put as much effort into it as they do with the HTTYD and Kung Fu Panda movies and it’d be untouchable and this version of the DCEU would go toe to toe with the MCU.

DCEU recast/fancast

Like my MCU recast/fancast and for fun, if I could recast anyone, I would choose this.

Few things first.

  • This will just be recasting the current DCEU, for a more in depth recast, see my old one
  • Barry Allen will not be the Flash in this, it will be Wally West
  • Recasting Steve Trevor so Chris Pine can be Hal Jordan
  • Jason, Ray and Joe are the only ones returning in my recast
  • I love Henry as Clark, but WB cannot make up their fucking minds if he’s staying or going and we need ONE definitive Batman and we do not need a Anti-Palestinian as Wonder Woman
  • My version of Birds Of Prey is about Barbara, Dinah and Helena coming together to stop Lady Shiva and Cain and it ends with Cassandra saving Barbara from Cain and Barbara begins to train Cassandra as the next Batgirl and Barbara taking the mantle of Oracle(Black Mask will make an appearance to hire Cain to assassinate someone, but that’s it. Worldbuilding to show who runs the Gotham Underworld)

If Warner Bros. really wants to make the DCEU different from Disney’s MCU, then instead of making it souless, grim, and gritty, they should embrace different genres.

  • Wonder Woman movies could be period piece movies, chronicalling her journey to modern times.
  • Green Lantern could be Buddy Cop adventures. Hal Jordan mentoring under Sinestro (who does NOT turn heel at the end of the first, but instead the end of the second or even third).
  • Superman could be much more fun, and more friendly towards the younger audience. The hopeful one.
  • Batman could embrace the detective noir elements. Give him a mystery to solve, instead of just a thug to punch.
  • Captain Marvel could be the child fantasy. Embrace the sillier elements. He’s The Big Red Cheese for a reason.
  • The Flash could easily be a Coming of Age story, about finding oneself and where you belong (this would also really help to set it apart from the TV series).
  • Constantine could embrace the horror aspects.
  • Aquaman could easily be outright high fantasy.
  • Dr Fate could be both horror or fantasy.
  • And instead of building up a plot to play out in a single huge film in whatever passes for their “phase three,” they could actually spread it out across several individual sequels. “The Blackest Night” (just a random example) begins in Green Lantern 3, parts of it plays out in Dr Fate, MoS 3, and finishes in Justice League: The Blackest Night

I mean, I could go on forever. I know I’ve made similar statements about the MCU in the past. But the DCEU is still so new and young that it’s not too late to impliment this. And it would indeed be very different to the MCU.
