been trying to use more gender neutral language lately since ive a habit of referring to the group i hang out with as "the lads". which sometimes works but i currently am mostly hanging around with a bunch of non binary and genderless individuals so i feel like lads is not accurate. but instead calling them stuff like "everyone" ive taken to calling them "pikmin" due to the fact that they skitter around and idle aimlessly unless i take the lead and direct them towards a task such as carrying objects to bring back to my ship in order for me to escape the planet before my life support system runs out of power
every time one of them gets left behind or wanders off from the group i have to drop this image in chat to call them back because i dont have a whistle

this TikTok comment isn’t about learning second languages but it is a great example of why second languages can be so challenging in extremely funny ways. Already this verbiage can confuse a native speaker, because yeah, “chewing” and “eating” can be interchanged in a sentence that’s literally about food. But “chewing someone out” (scolding them harshly) and “eating someone out” (performing oral sex, usually vaginal) are Very different phrases. Similar to the words in “butt dial” and “booty call” meaning the same thing, but the phrases meaning something very different.
Idk anyway the comments made me laugh & whenever I speak another language I wonder when this will happen to me. Because I know it will eventually.
it’s been two years, but i think that an icon like her deserves to be known about by more people.
her name was freddie oversteegen and she, at the age of fourteen, along with her older sister truus who was 16 and their friend johanna “hannie” schaft who was 19, was a part of the netherlands most famous all female resistance cell which was dedicated to fighting the nazis and dutch traitors.
among other things, they are known to have blown up bridges and railroads, smuggled jewish children from concentration camps and, as the tweet mentions, seducing nazis and then shooting them with guns that they had hidden in their bike baskets. freddie is quoted as having said that they “had to do it.” and that it was a “necessary evil, killing those who betrayed good people.”
though freddie and her sister truus were both lucky and survived the war, hannie schaft wasn’t. at the age of 24, hannie was caught and around three weeks later was executed by nazis, only 18 days before the netherlands were eventually liberated. she was shot with one only wounding her, and, before the final shot, hannie is quoted as having told the executioners: ik schiet beter, which translates to “i shoot better.”
though she didn’t survive, hannie is recognized as a national icon and a face of the dutch resistance, with her story even being retold in a movie from 1981 called “the girl with the red hair.” along with this, truus also founded the national hannie schaft foundation in 1992, on which freddie served as a board member.
freddie, at the time of her death, was 92 years old and the last surviving member of the resistance cell, with truus having died two years earlier at the age of 92.
though these women and all that they did played an important part in the dutch resistance, they are often overlooked in history outside of the netherlands. it’s important that they are remembered and that their work to save people isn’t forgotten. it’s incredible what they did, especially given how young they were, and they deserve more recognition than what they’ve gotten.

On Inauguration Day everyone who can get to DC should go, armed with the loudest boom box or Bluetooth speaker they can find, and surround the Mall, and when they call Trump's name everyone should absolutely BLAST American Idiot, all together.
One, the song definitely expresses the majority opinion. Two, news stations would have to, at a bare minimum, bleep "the subliminal mindfuck America" and "well maybe I'm the faggot America," meaning there would be no unedited footage for Trump to watch. Follow it up with Holiday and make him swear in to the sound of "seig heil to President Gas Man" and "kill all the fags that don't agree." If you're not Gen X or Millennial, you may not understand why I'm saying this, so let me explain: American Idiot was a direct response to George W. Bush and the Iraq War. It is a pointed "fuck you" to the Republican Party. If you need further evidence, consider that Green Day now performs the song as "I'm not a part of a MAGA agenda" instead of "redneck agenda," because the "redneck" was "ain't I jus'-folks" Texan Bush. For a pretty decent chunk of Millennials, this album is right up there with Welcome to the Black Parade as one of our anthems, and I think that might be even more true of Gen X, who were in their twenties when that particular shitshow went down.
This is a thing that won't happen--too many logistics and probably too much security. But it SHOULD happen.
Green day has the opportunity to do the #1 funniest thing ever. They approach Trump to perform free at the inauguration, and he somehow agrees because he's an idiot. American idiot: live.
