Pepe had a hard life (and wants more monies)
According to a 1999 interview, Pepe studied ballet for two years in New York City:
At MuppetFest in 2001, Pepe claimed to be 21 years old, though Gonzo indicates that Pepe is lying. Pepe’s real age is still a mystery.
Update: mystery solved! According to an earlier version of Pepe's Muppet Wiki article, Pepe stated in a 2006 interview that he is 30, and his birthday is June 19, the same day as Bill Barretta's. (Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a clip of this interview anywhere!)
So June is not only Pride month, but also Pepe’s birthday month. Coincidence? I think not.
At MuppetFest in 2001, Pepe claimed to be 21 years old, though Gonzo indicates that Pepe is lying. Pepe's real age is still a mystery.
Bill Barretta talks about Pepe's characteristics that were based off of his wife's aunt (in this case, Pepe's love of getting things for free)
Pepe gives his backstory, going from Malaga to Madrid to the Muppets
Today I bring you an audio interview with Pepe from 2008, where he's promoting his book It's Hard Out Here For A Shrimp. He talks about his origin story, and how his talents were discovered after he was caught in a fishing net with his family off the coast of Malaga. The whole interview is... a trip.
