Illyana Rasputin in Pre-Krakoan Uncanny X-Men #20 or 21
I like it when the girls hang out.
Even if there’s always some guy trying to horn in.

Illyana Rasputin is not in this panel from New Mutants: Lethal Legion #2, but…
…she’s kinda in it?
Illyana Rasputin in Bishop: War College #5
How dare they have fun without Illyana!

So, Dani…
…I have found an excuse to ask you to hang out with me. It has instantly cheered me up.
Illyana Rasputin in the text of Bishop: War College #1
Wow, they kinda front-loaded this issue, putting Illyana on page one! There’s also this, a bit later:
I don’t like that. I get that this is a continuation of Yana and Bishop training the kids in that one Hellfire Gala oneshot, but here it feels like the kids were drafted whether they wanted to be or not.
And wasn’t the whole point of Krakoa that all mutants didn’t have to be child soldiers anymore to survive? If they want training to be able to protect themselves and each other, great. But they should be allowed to be kids.
What I do like? Dani needs some help looking after the kids, goes straight to Illyana. Nice.
Illyana Rasputin and friends in New Mutants #33
Good art. This is exactly the look you get when you tell the girls, “This is going to be the final issue of New Mutants.”
Relaunch when?
Jennifer Kale and not Illyana Rasputin in X-Force #85
So this is not Illyana who Dani visits when in need of mystical assistance, but a different blond witchy woman. Still it’s so easy to imagine that if Illyana hadn’t been de-aged but had left the New Mutants/X-Force for different reasons, this is how they might’ve brought her back to the team—living her best life studying magic in peace and ready to help her friends if they call.
Dani hangs out with Jennifer again later, so she clearly misses having a magical bestie.
Love seeing casual Illyana. And wondering how many eyebeam jokes she’s already made wearing those shades and sitting next to Scott.

Girls’ (and Broo’s) night out on the town.
They are X-Men, after all. Any night out on the town soon devolves into fire and swordplay.

My skepticism about this book post-Hickman/Reis continues. But that is a fun cover with a fun Illyana.
Happy that this sets the story right after the team returns from space, because I want Illyana to sense what Arakko is the moment she sets foot on Krakoa again, and this makes that more likely.
Not sure if the New Mutants are going to be in both of these issues, but I definitely wouldn’t complain if we get to see a full issue of RB Silva drawing them.
Finally! Please be Arakko follow-up, please be Arakko follow-up.
Okay, those look more Brood than demon, but I’m gonna hold out hope anyway.
Interesting to see Magma reunited with her fellow New Mutants and to see it happen here, too.

New Mutant Haute Coture
Chamber has never looked crankier, which is saying something. And interesting to see both the Soulsurfboard and the boob window in the design options. We got the best for both in the finel choice. Too bad about the Actual Pants, though--wish we could’ve had those.

I don’t know about you, but I think this Sienkiewicz fellow may just have a big future in comics. This young unknown writer, Claremont? Ah, we’ll see.
This looks amazing and I cannot wait to read it. Poor Warlock. Protect him.

Dramatic campfire lighting does Illyana no disfavors.
And it’s good to have Roberto back home. We’ll have to wean him off having Avenging Guys as reference points, though.
