What!? WHAT!?*

Once, we almost had the dream.

If anyone has that issue of Amazing Heroes magazine, I’d love to see a picture of the passage in question, or just to know if there was any other detail given.

*) Actually, I remember reading about this ages ago, I think I just suppressed it because thinking about what we could have had is too hard.

Well dang, that’s some solid reprinting action!

TRUE BELIEVERS: X-MEN - SOULSWORD #1      Reprinting: Uncanny X-Men (1981) #171 32 pages, $1.
TRUE BELIEVERS: X-MEN - MAGIK #1      Reprinting: Magik (1983) #1 32 pages, $1.

I have these, both in the original and in collections, but it’s still tempting to order them just because.

Even better, these True Believer issues tend to get chosen because they’re relevant to new books coming out. The Soulsword one is probably because of X of Swords, and the Magik one may be because our girl is just that prominent in the X-ranks these days (Cypher is getting one too!) but who knows, they might point to more good things coming our way...

This is why (despite loving the team-up) I’ve always had a bit of an issue of Illyana apprenticing with Strange under Bendis. She has been very well-schooled in the arts arcane since Limbo, but she gets treated too easily as a novice at them.

Now, that doesn’t mean she knows as much magic as him--I’ve always liked to see the Sorcerer Supreme as someone who knows every kind of magic, or near enough (treating the title as a set of powers that can be handed to anyone is dumb; there, I said it, alternate future Sorcerer Supreme Tony fricking Stark, or for that matter Billy Kaplan who is awesome but uses his powers without much learning)--but Illyana is a specialist, probably the greatest, in the magics related to Limbo.

I’m not sure how long Stephen studied with the Ancient One for? Regardless, Illyana’s seven years of training (mystical with Belasco and Ororo, and physical with Kat) came with demons to punish her when she didn’t learn right or fast enough. Bet the Ancient Nice Guy didn’t have a S’ym.

And like Stephen wisely says, her development as a non-traumatized human lagged behind a bit.

I expect everyone here to have already read the classic Kulan Gath story reprinted in Savage Avengers #0, but if anyone foolishly hasn’t, it’s still great and also makes this issue worth picking up. Featuring honestly one of Illyana’s best outfits.

Would read backstory mini on scullery-girl-but-secretly-a-witch Illyana set in the Hyborean Age.

We all struggle with our own thoughts and doubts sometimes. We don’t all get to put them to the sword. Sadly.

Loved this scene--the duality of Illyana’s human and demon sides as something she constantly struggles with. And as a bonus, expressed through swordfighting. *cheff’s kiss*

Are they really going to make me buy a reprint for a short framing sequence? I guess they are, because I love that classic Kulan Gath story and will take any call-back to it.

Also, Greg Smallwood Illyana? Yes please.

I don’t know about you, but I think this Sienkiewicz fellow may just have a big future in comics. This young unknown writer, Claremont? Ah, we’ll see.

This looks amazing and I cannot wait to read it. Poor Warlock. Protect him.
