MEGA MAN FANS. Ok so I’m curious so we’re gonna make a poll.

Tried to be broad about it. Please lemme know in the tags how you got introduced. I’m wondering if my introduction is universal 👀.

It was when I watched Captain N: The Game Master on TV when I was a kid

Also when I got introduced to Castlevania, Kid Icarus, and Metroid.

I don't think centaurs in Fallout are scary enough, what if they could mimic human voices and what if in-game they mimicked companions calling out to the player <3

there's like no canon basis for this of course aside from Moira in FO3 implying she thinks centaurs can probably talk in her terminal but like I'm making this my headcanon for centaurs. I think it adds a little flavor to these things. plus it could be funny just as much as it could be scary

I can make them even creepier - What if centaurs mimicked everything they heard, but everything they repeat sounds distorted like if you were to record yourself and have the audio play back on top of each other in different pitches. Similar to some kind of harmonizer sound effect. Or something like that but garbled.

Different centaurs might repeat different things - some might mimic the last cries of someone they killed in that same distorted voice. They might repeat their last words back when they were human. Maybe they can be like those FO3/NV feral ghouls that actually say a word or two from time to time about how much their existence pains them.

There are centaurs in Fallout?

Yes, but they look like this

Space Dragon: (Wearing fake moustache and hate with a white card with the name R. Idley on it) WHAT HAHAHAHAH WHERE IS HE LETS GET HIM FELLAS”

I mean, is it weird to fight arachnus twice? First time was on SR-388, second was on a biological science lab full of specimens from that world. Arachnus ain't a character, its a species. There's more than one.

Admittedly, Superman’s x-ray vision does not normally fire x-rays, but that being said, if it did it would be even more dangerous than his standard heat vision. xasers (yes, that’s the actual term for an x-ray laser) have a massive energy output capable of burning through matter quite quickly.

Dogs make up for everything!

Maybe a stupid question, why is he shilling for Under Armour?

I’m sorry to say I don’t know what that’s a reference to hon…

The hoodie has the Under Armor logo on it.

Under Armor being a brand of sportswear that made their big success on skintight, breathable perperation-absorbing underclothes for athletes, but now they make all kinds of sporty clothes.

Well the Scrooge stuff is well done and emotional too. Obviously Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is creepy, but I also appreciate how weird and eerie Ghost of Christmas Past is.

It’s a really well written and enjoyable film :D

And ye the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come scared me as a kiddo O.O

My favorite bit was always Statler and Waldorf as Jacob (And Robert!) Marley. It’s funny, but also impressively acted, illustrating what it is like to be a tormented ghost. The “Speak comfort to me friends! “ “COMFORT?! AHHHGH!” line in particular is such a good one, the pair yanked back forcibly by the chains around their necks.  It perfectly illustrates that even terrified as he is, Scrooge still does not understand the full scope of what his old friends are doomed to, and in his hubris, asked for something they cannot give.

“Sir do you really think naming our high school football team after an infamous mass murdering bloodthirsty terrorist was a good idea?”

“Are you suggesting that the proud men and women working here at Jeffrey Dahmer Memorial High are in some way BAD at picking out names?

Because I will not stand for such slander”

This got a big laugh out of me

:D

Hehehehehehe

I’m glad that this made you laugh so much!

I had to do it :D

I love that the teams’ colors are those of Logan and Creed’s costumes from the old cartoon!

Right?

This high school football team 100% named itself after the actual supervillain

The Tragedy of Droids in Star Wars

An interesting examination of the portrayal of robots in Star Wars, how the slavery of the droid characters comes across as REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE (Poor L3-37…), and a brief contrast with other science fiction works’ handling of the subject of robot rights.

Yeah, them using this exchange from ST:TNG’s Measure of a Man is kind of wiince-inducing when contrasted with the callous manner Star Wars treats a chunk of its cast.

Consider that in the history of many worlds there have always been disposable creatures. They do the dirty work. They do the work that no one else wants to do, because it’s too difficult or too hazardous. And an army of Datas, all disposable? You don’t have to think about their welfare; you don’t think about how they feel. Whole generations of disposable people.” “You’re talking about slavery.” “I think that’s a little harsh.” “I don’t think that’s a little harsh, I think that’s the truth. But that’s a truth that we have obscured behind a… comfortable, easy euphemism. ‘Property’. But that’s not the issue at all, is it?

We all rightfully call out what utter garbage the concept of “House Elves” and how everything about them was handled in Harry Potter is but the uncomfortable truth is that Star Wars treats Droids the exact same way…portraying them as clearly sentient beings (They feel emotion, are self aware and can make choices…they are sentient even if they are made of metal and wires) who are basically portrayed as happy to be treated as property/servants and any time it’s questioned it’s treated as a joke

I’m not saying Star Wars as a whole is bad or that No One Can Ever Enjoy It Again but yeah the treatment of droids in fiction is really full of a lot of super gross tropes and it would be nice, given that Star Wars is still publishing new fiction like literally every single month set within its universe, if they addressed this and fixed it?

Like

Maybe at the very least have the side that are supposed to be the good guys realise that this is fucked up and show them supporting an end to the treatment of droids as things instead of people?

I’d be completely down for that! I appreciate it when Star Wars treats droids like fully-autonomous beings. L3-37 is actually one of my favorite droids in the series because she rightfully calls the protagonists out on their crap (even if she doesn’t technically survive the movie or change anything in the long run), and there’s a long running tradition in Star Wars of autonomous droid bounty hunters that work of their own accord (the IG units, for example). I’ll watch the video itself later (don’t have time today), but I do think that a Star Wars story about droid rights would be genuinely interesting, especially considering that, besides clones, they’re the only group in Star Wars that seems to be regularly discriminated against.

In the Mandalorian the prejudice is seemingly “justified“ due to their use as weapons during the Clone Wars… It’s still stupid, and smacks of the bad worldbuilding in that Light movie WIll Smith was in, where Orcs experience prejudice which is intended to reflect the racism aimed at African American people… But in universe it’s “justified“ by Orcs working for a Sauron-type 1000 years ago… Even though a rebel Orc was the one who united the humans, elves etc. to defeat the dark lord in the first place, and the fact that there’s a “justification“ for WHY racism exists kind of makes the metaphor fall flat.

I just assumed that Dyn Jarren’s distaste for droids stemmed from the Clone Wars… I hadn’t considered that that’s where all the droid prejudice in the series was from. While it makes sense (even if it’s flawed) as a justification on a personal level, that makes no sense on a galaxial level, considering that there were plenty of droids fighting and assisting the Republic, such as R2-D2. I guess it could be handwaved with the idea that the Republic’s droids weren’t exactly visibly on the front lines, but it’s still messed up.

Ye, I could be wrong here but I think Din’s dislike of droids is a personal thing for him due to what the battle droids did rather than it being a galactic thing that’s the reason for the poor treatment of droids across the Star Wars-verse…

(Slips a copy of Who Framed Roger Rabbit under his door in the hope that this tale of Bob Hoskins overcoming his anti-toon prejudices through his friendship with an adorable rabbit will heal his soul) <3

The thing that upsets me about L3 is that she has a point but she’s used as a joke in solo

And throughout the series we see droids who clearly dislike their service (the B1’s in clone wars)

I’ve always seen c3po and all that as more like a robotic Alfred, and it’s shown that droids have clear disdain for when they’re maltreated (for sentient droids) like how the binary load lifters tried to escape, and the screams of pain from Gonk in jabbas palace

Not to mention droids like the various IG series ones who were basically attempting to do a full on Skynet style rebellion in the original Star Wars expanded universe or droids like Aphra’s occasional partners in crime

And ye the “Joke” with L3 is just awful honestly…just a mean spirited and unpleasant “LOL social justice warrior” attempt at humour

Yeah, I unironically liked the character but I didn’t like how rude the other cast members were to her (including Lando, which felt weird combined with the implication that the two of them were in a relationship).

Also, yeah, the big mystery in the Star Wars universe is who the heck decided that every droid would be completely sentient?? Like, there are certain droids where that makes sense (protocol droids, for example), but having all the varieties of battle droids be sentient seems just as cruel as developing a slave army to defend your democracy.

If the droids weren’t sentient, this wouldn’t be a problem… but since they are, they deserve to be treated better by the people of the galaxy. Equal droid rights!!!

DROID FREEDOM NOW!

And ye this whole issue could be solved if they just had it  firmly 100% canon that like some droids are sentient and are treated as people and some machines are basically a roomba and those are non-sentient robots… like, clearly establish that there are different kinds of mechanical beings and not all mechanical beings in Star Wars are built with an AI in them some of them are just like the robots we have today where they are non-sentent machines

but the problem is they show droids who are clearly sentient and posess emotion being treated like they are just things that people can own and it’s not just bad guys like the Empire or the First Order who treat sentient droids this way it’s just shown as an accepted thing that everyone even the good guys seem to be fine with and that’s where it becomes unsettling

And ye I agree that the problem with L3 isn’t her character but how the film treats her character

Yeah, looking back, the only reason they killed off L3 was so that C-3PO’s comment in Empire Strikes Back about the ship’s computer having “a most curious accent” would have an explanation. An optimistic person might argue that it’s also an explanation for why the Falcon has been such a reliable ship throughout the years, but at the same time, they still robbed an injured droid of her autonomy, and never bothered to fix her or reverse the transfer later.

Nobody’s going to get me to drink something that moves like that.

That’s the most viscous, high-surface-tension “tea” I’ve ever seen.

Oh, holy shit, this is from The Secret World of Arrietty, isn’t it? Never mind, this is actually brilliant! The tea behaves like water droplets because the people are tiny and the fluid properties of liquid don’t scale down. This is an impressive level of attention to detail.

And also that’s just how Ghibli does water.

i know this exact post has been made hundreds of times but the funniest fucking part about Warhammer 40K lore is that orks are canonically reality-bending telepaths but are too stupid to exercise their abilities consciously; instead, things that enough orks think should work end up actually working, even if they violate the laws of physics. orks think that painting their vehicles red makes them go faster and painting missiles yellow makes them explode more, and so it does. captured ork mechs that get disassembled are usually revealed to be full of nothing but random scrap metal and wood piled haphazardly together and refuse to work when piloted by a non-ork. orks have fucking openable windows on their spaceships to let in a breeze

Avatar

I don’t care about warhammer 40k at large but the idea of orks being tremendously stupid football hooligans who make things that shouldn’t work just happen anyway because of powers they’re too dumb to use consciously is incredibly funny

Master economists, too.

Avatar

Wasn’t it also implied that they have those psychic powers because there used to be an oppressive ruling class who DID know how to use them, and created the “dumber” orks to basically be their slaves and soldiers which backfired hilariously?

Yes, the “Brainboyz”. However, it is unclear if they actually existed, or if they are just an orkish mis-remembering of the Old Ones, who are also credited with their creation as a living weapon for use in their war with the Necrons.

Of course, how much of any of these theories are true is unclear as Ork history is even more unreliable than humans.

Superman slapped Kennedy and Kruschev

And that’s the true story of how the cold war ended…

The USA and USSR putting aside their differences out of fear of a super powered individual commonly associated with the colour blue…..feel like I’ve heard that somewhere before

Ozymandias based his whole entire plan off of silver age Superman comic books O.O;

Didn’t they change it to be that way for the movie?

Pretty sure in the graphic novel the “great threat” that Ozymandias united them against was a genetically-engineered fake cosmic horror that they fed surreal cosmic horror art for years so that the psychic trauma of it’s death would devastate New York when it was teleported there and exploded.
