Came to a horrific realization about Angel the Series.
Wolfram & Hart is so obsessed with this sad rectangular of a man. They want to put him into situations. They give him back his first girlfriend. They give him a whole law-firm. They want to see him fail. They want to see him succeed. Angel is their poor little meow meow, he's their blorbo from the Earth-dimension.
cordy becoming part demon felt like such an interesting plot point with lots of potential that was simply casted aside... it would have been so cool for her to become more weird and powerful! or an ep where demons, now related to her, show up to welcome her into the family? idk, something else aside from "great, now she is not dying anymore we can forget about that"
Does Angel giving Harmony a reference make any sense after finding out she betrayed him? No. Is it hilarious and make Angel look like the sweetest boss ever? Yes and the scene will never fail to make me laugh.
touch starved cangel is just soooooo good and interesting because Angel has been alive for like 250 years and most of that was in the hands of Darla where touch existed from the blurred line that mixed pain and pleasure. And then he spent a hundred-ish years being all alone and the only physical contact he really got was from Buffy but even that tore him up because of instinctual wrongness that comes from being a vampire around the slayer and the fact that their relationship was most often tumultuous. Meanwhile Cordy is pretty much canonically a very tactile person but we know that her parents were neglectful at best and the main source of her touch most likely came from the fleeting relationships she had that were most likely using her for popularity’s sake and then Xander and once their relationship ended and her parents abandoned her she essentially had nothing in the way of touch or really love. So the idea of them finding each other, of showing love through small touches that only grew bigger as their relationship deepened, for them to find a relationship where touch isn’t a means to an end or comes with pain–either physical or emotional–and just means love in it’s simplest form, is really healthy and healing and what they deserve

At the end of the day gunn is a guy who gets told its his last day on earth and to do whatever he wants with it and he chooses to help out at a local homeless shelter. And that's all I gotta say about him

you have to suffer through some really horrific irish accents but it’s really interesting to experience the backstory in this way, I’ve been looking for it for ages
We can argue all day long about how Angel and/or Spike changed the vampire lore in BtVS. One had a soul forced on him, and the other chose to get one (after having a chip in his head for two years), but no one talks about my girl Harmony.
No soul, no chip, and she chooses to stop killing humans and drinking human blood for no other reason than a good pay check.
Harmony is such a fascinating case. She shows more empathy and genuine care for others AFTER being turned than she did before.
High school regular human Harmony was a garbage friend who turned on Cordy over nothing and took to humiliating her in front of everyone. And was a basic stereotypical high school mean girl bully.
Vampire Harmony seemed to genuinely miss and care for Cordy (even if she turned on her again, I think it was largely because she knew she wasn't accepted into the group). She also seemed to genuinely care about Fred. We saw her mourning Fred alone when there was no one around to put on a show for. She was also genuinely empathetic to Wesley during that, she was upset about Gunn's role in it, and she was angry at/hated Knox.
High school regular human Harmony that was alive with a soul would not have cared one bit about Fred's death. She would have bullied the absolute shit out of Fred for being a nerd and then would have shrugged it off and forgotten about her if she was killed.
But soulless vampire Harmony gave Fred a chance, became friends with her, and was genuinely upset over her death.
Harmony is actually the most interesting vampire in the show.

basically I have a lot of feelings about him and I simultaneously relate to him and want him to be my mum and he is a very very special boy who deserves all the love in the world!!! so!!! lorne says happy pride month!!!!
Perhaps odd to say but angel reassuring wesley that he's not angelus right before he tries to kill him is... that's like top 5 uses of angelus in the buffyverse for me. Like it's more about the absence of angelus than the guy himself but it still hits sooo well. It often feels like the writers weren't really sure what to do with the concept after buffy season 2 but that moment right there is kinda genius
actually I do think there’s something to say about how when angel begrudgingly admitted to spike there was one thing he liked about him, he picked the thing spike was most insecure about. bc it’s important to remember that before he was spike, he was william — a gentle soul who loved his mother dearly and wrote poetry. people called him ‘william the bloody’ because of his bloody awful poetry. “spike” came from people saying that his poetry made them want to drive a railroad spike thru their head. as a vampire he became the most hardened version of himself, and his poetry was long forgotten. but he had a soul again, that gentle part of him was back, and angel complimented his oldest wound
it’s also important to note that spike had NEVER gotten any validation from angel or from angelus. william, even as a vampire, was still soft. he was still a romantic at heart, still cared for his mother, loved drusilla. and angelus sought to ruin him. berated him, mocked him. he may not have sired him, but he created spike. sent him down the path to change his accent, his name, to embrace violence. angel felt guilt for his crimes, but he never apologized to spike. this almost felt like one
as a lilah and linsey mortal enemyship-enjoyer I do adore lilah's conversation with gavin where she's shit talking him and is like "well lindsey got his hand cut off for this company what have you done" like that's so funny to me. she hated lindsey's guts the entire time he was around and then the second he leaves and gavin shows up to be all "hee hee lilah i'm the new thorn in your side now" she's just like absolutely fucking not. you will never be half the thorn in my side lindsey was. dynamic of all time
He killed people and he looked...well I wouldn't say he looks good exactly but not tooo bad like i think hes doing alright for himself he killed people and he looked mediocre doing it.
SO SAD that there really were only like two episodes that dealt with angel siring other vampires and they were just one off episodes… like you give me an episode where there is a vampire angelus had sired, who literally attributed angelus as his “real father,” going around and mimicking the ways in which angelus would kill people and angel is paranoid it’s him because of their sire connection, as just a one episode deal. okay
