I can definitely see why some people would get tired of the monster-of-the-week style of writing in Journey to the West, but you do have to admit there is something very cathartic about watching a whole set of violent & powerful guys throwing their weight around getting curb stomped by a little man who looks like this:

Even Nezha and Erlangshen can't beat him), but he can still be compassionate, and after being sealed for 500 years in the Five Elements Mountain, the inner core of his soul is still stable, he didn't fall, he didn't turn into a villain to take revenge on the whole world, and he came out the same as before.

He respects women, he just took human form and knew to help women (because women were the underprivileged group in those times) before he got any guidance from the higher-ups.
3️⃣ Empathy
The Indian princess was impersonated by the Jade Rabbit spirit, everyone thought she was fake, the princess was desperate and wanted to end her life by sinking herself in the lake, wu kong didn't want the princess to be afraid, he took the form of a kind grandmother to comfort the princess and save the day, he didn't say “if you kill yourself like this, the people you love will be sad, can you stand up to your parents (Chinese culture is about filial piety)” but said “You must have suffered a great deal”“Tell me about it. Maybe I can help you”.
He was very understanding and insightful, and he knows a lot about human nature. On one of their adventures, a king's wife was captured by a demon and imprisoned for a long time, and at that condition, chastity was very important for a woman. Wu kong, in order to prevent the queen from being criticized or even slut-shaming, told the king that the queen had received a dress from a certain immortal, and that the demon could not come near her while she was wearing the dress. Thus wu kong protected the queen's reputation and was always so considerate when he could.
So chinese call wukong Měihóuwáng 美猴王 which describe him as handsome outside and beautiful inside (lit. meaning Beauty Monkey King, a laudatory and endearing title given by folks instead of supreme power such as the Heavenly Court).
The actor is Liu Xiao Ling Tong六小龄童 （chinese call him laoshi to pay respect）

Tidbits: When LXLT was interviewed, he said that CCR took care of him like a big brother. When they were filming the series, they lived in the same room, but every time CCR woke up early to go filming, he would always pat LXLT gently, who was still sleeping, and say, “little liu, I am going to film, you sleep for a while and have a good rest”, or he would say, “little liu, I am going to have breakfast first, you sleep for a while and have a good rest”. So LXLT is always woken up and never had a good rest lmao.

So this is from 30,000 Miles From Chang’an, which is a 2 hours 47 minutes(!!?) long Chinese animated film that is basically an actually legitimate historical epic and historical biopic (think Gladiator & Amadeus) made into animation, and also passionate tribute to classical art and culture, similar to something like Miss Hokusai or Millennium Actress.
