You know the worst part about Bruce not knowing what really happened in the warehouse, and so blaming Jason for his death, and as a result, Sheila's? It's knowing that if it were anyone else with Sheila in that warehouse, Bruce would not have rested until he figured out what really happened.

He would put on his "World Greatest Detective™️" hat and investigate the shit out of everything. No stone would be left unturned. Somehow, some way, he would uncover the exact details of exactly what went down.

But it's Jason, so he runs home to Alfred, and Alfred, forever Bruce's number one enabler goes "Welp, can't say I'm surprised. I could have told you he would get himself killed." and for Bruce, that's all he needs.

Jason runs away pt 3

Jason 3

Jason is quick to anger, he would tell you himself. Yeah, he would need to tell you, because you wouldn’t be able to see it yourself.

He’s good at all the important things. He’s good at lying, he’s good at running, and he’s damn good at keeping everything he thinks or feels off his face if he says so himself. His face is an imperturbable mask! So he is angry a lot and yet teachers coo at him and say he’s the sweetest thing. It makes him even angrier, and his smile wider, and they coo some more.

And he has been angry for a long time.

It starts a month in. Jason finds out:

- he’s starting tutoring with a girl who clearly hates him;

- it’s because he’s enrolled at a snotty school;

- under the name Wayne;

- because he’s adopted;

- because his father is dead.

And, like, now he legally belongs to Bruce Wayne.

The Gift

Damian had always wanted to have a cat, but he had never told anyone. So when Pennyworth presented him with one in the Cave it came as a bit of surprise. He wasn’t even sure Pennyworth liked him, though he tolerated Damian.  Every subordinate “tolerated” Damian, Pennyworth wasn’t any different. Soon Pennyworth would grow to dislike him. They all did, but Damian couldn’t be bothered to care. It was beneath him to entertain such feelings. What did he care if Pennyworth liked him or not?

It was astounding the amount of disrespect and rebellious behavior Father tolerated from Pennyworth. The butler constantly meddled in their business by monitoring their sleep, making sure they were fed before and after patrol; and even had the gull to bench them from patrol due to injuries. The insolence of it all was hardly anything Damian could tolerate from a servant.

Father said Pennyworth’s rules and restrictions were just his way of showing that he cared about them and their safety. Damian thought it was a way for Pennyworth to assert his power over the Waynes and one day take over. He thought his Father naïve for having such faith in a butler. Pennyworth may care about his father, but not him. None of the servants at his Grandfather’s compound ever cared about his wellbeing enough for Damian to trust them. Their care for him was conditional. They feared for their lives more than they cared about keeping him safe.

Damian wasn’t sure what to make of Pennyworth’s meddling actions. It wasn’t because Pennyworth cared about him, no it was to remain in his Father’s good graces.

But then Pennyworth had given him a cat. Damian had always wanted a cat, but Grandfather saw them as useless, disgusting creatures and never permitted him to keep one. One day Damian had found an abandon kitten and he had been allowed to care for it, but it was a test. Everything with the League was always a test. When approached by his Grandfather to kill the kitten, Damian refused seeing no purpose in an act so senseless.  Of course he was punished for refusing to end the animal’s life and since then he had been wary of caring for any animals; that was until he came to stay with his Father. Father had gotten him a dog and eventually let him keep the cow he rescued from a slaughterhouse.

He must not get attached to the cat, which shouldn’t be hard as it was currently hissing at Damian. The cat was a young tuxedo cat with a white marking across its whiskers like a mustache just like Pennyworth.

“He has potential. I’ll call him Alfred.”

It seemed like an unusual name to give to a cat, but it fit. The cat was bold for such a small creature and commanded respect, just like its namesake.

Damian Loves His Grandpa Challenge 2020

Fandom buddies, remember when DC killed Alfred and placed the whole blame on Damian?

Or when DC threw all the character development of Damian down the drain? Making him a suicide bomber (Teen Titans 2016 Annual #1)  just a few issues after Teen Titans Special where they reintroduced his Middle Eastern heritage part? Yeah, yikes! Or when they called him a baby Hitler in the legion of superhero comics? Yeah, they did. And the whole current teen titans run where he is written like a terrorist and is all of a sudden, after many years, painted darker.

We all are tired of DC doing this again and again.

21st August holds significance as it was the day when they killed Alfred (the day the issue was released anyway).

We challenge fan creators to make some (wholesome) Alfred & Damian content to post on August 21st. We encourage fans to create Alfred & Damian content to combat the comics that have everyone blaming Damian for Alfred’s death.

Accepting fics, mini fics, long fic, art, comic edits (GEN CATEGORY) whatever anyone is comfortable with if you are interested and do post something on the day please tag it with DamianLovesHisGrandpa2020 its the general ao3/tumblr tag.

We also encourage you to spread the word.

If you think you might not be able to participate, despite wanting to, you can reblog this post and the posts (fics, arts, comic edits) for the event posted on that day, bookmark the fics for the events, leave a kudos on them, comment on them, share them in the discord servers. You can still support.

For the posts, kindly use this hashtag on ao3/tumblr: DamianLovesHisGrandpa2020

For fics, a collection on ao3 has been made: Damian Loves his Grandpa 2020

The posting begins from 12 am AET to 11:59 pm HST

So, while I procrastinate on my long-term writing projects, I go through fanfic tropes. I did or doing currently: ABO, soulmates, amnesia. Now it’s time for identity porn (and some more amnesia). Without, you know, actual porn so far. (I learned my lesson with omgcp fic). So here it is, but mind the tags before reading ok?

Pt.1

Dick is with Babs when Alfred calls. Not quite an anxiety spikes in his gut. It’s probably nothing. Bruce Wayne is a new man now, far away from any crime-fighting or hero-ing. In a mask, at least. Dick saw good things about Martha Wayne Foundation in the press.

So it’s highly unlikely that Bruce got himself in another pickle that Nightwing is needed again.

Honestly, I don’t think we appreciate the Arkham Games’ writing enough. Like. Okay. Jason’s backstory here really does have him sort of at fault for getting caught; it says outright that he turned off his trackers with the intent of hunting down and murdering the Joker. Regardless of his motivation, that…is not smart. I mean. You know I love him to bits, which is why I say, earnestly, honey, no.

BUT. Not one time do the general narrative OR the other characters pull the ‘don’t be like poor, reckless Jason’ card. (Granted, he’s not brought up, really, but Dick does allude to him a time or two.) Neither the flashbacks nor Hallucination!Joker’s comments regarding him cast him as anything other than someone who did not deserve what happened. Even when he’s actively attempting to kill Batman (and if he does take you out, he’s not sorry.), Bruce’s response is to double down on trying to convince him to come home; he disarms him, which is reasonable (two hits! that’s all it takes, what the hell!), but despite having a ridiculous amount of ranged weaponry, the only thing the game will let you do to him is pop up and essentially try to hug him. It won’t even let you try the disruptor on his rifle, even though it will let you jam (but not rig to blow, due to fatality likelihood) the mini-guns.

Gee. It’s almost like Joker is responsible for his own actions, and that those actions include the torture and (faked) murder of a teenager

I’M NOT DONE HERE HANG THE FUCK ON.

Now, granted, we’ve all seen the snarky, ‘why would you take a shortcut through a dark alley, Wayne Family’, but, really, at the end of the day, it’s a spot of black snark. That’s all. That said-and maybe this is my Female Narrative coloring my view-I’ve been told, since I can remember (and probably before that), that one’a the cardinal rules of life is to stay in well-lit areas. No alley shortcuts, that’s dumb and that’s how kidnappers will get you. It doesn’t matter if it’s an alley in the Nice Part of Town, seedy people lurk inside, don’t go in.

But, like…despite this being a realistically stupid choice that ended undeservedly badly, DC really doesn’t…care. It’s Joe Chill’s fault and that’s it, which is how it’s supposed to be, but…WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE. I’m so lost and confused as to how two grown-ass adults are not at fault for going, ‘yes, alley shortcut, this is fine’ and getting shot (RIP Wayne Family), but a kid is…somehow at fault for going ‘my mom says this is fine, okay’ and getting beaten half to death and blown up? How does this work? I suck at math, so maybe there’s some vital mathy thing I’m missing, but I am confused and also mad about it.

It’s all about DCs horrible framing to save their asses after the fact. If it was Bruce’s parents fault, he doesn’t have to be sad, but it has to be Jason’s fault because otherwise Bruce looks bad.

People forget that they got a lot of crap for DitF, and the guy who wrote it actually got fired, it made the editor change his whole approach. A lot of readers and even Frank Miller, who wrote the edgiest freaking Batman ever called it the ugliest stunt he’d ever seen in comics.

Of course DC had no more creative way to try and patch up the situation other than to try and retcon Jason into an excessively violent, bratty street kid who should be never have been Robin in the first place. And thats what people saw everytime the new “better” Robin brought up how as long as he didn’t act like the old “bad” one he wouldn’t die.

Because, it was, after all, all Bad Robin’s fault that he died for wanting to meet his mom.

It’s kind of like when DC made Leslie Thompkins known pacifist a murderer to try and absolve Bruce of Steph’s death even though Steph’s death was completely Bruce’s fault since he: emotionally manipulated her, isolated her from everyone who even remotely thought about supporting her, kept life saving information from her and still after all that Steph put her whole trust into Batman’s logic a thinking and believed in his plans which was the final nail in the coffin for her

DC likes to be edgy which leads to Bat dickery which leads to poor Bruce taking poor actions and then DC jumping over backwards to make it some other characters fault so Bruce can remain infallible

Most recent example is when Bruce left Alfred to die while he made out with Selina on a beach and then in Pennyworth RIP we learn the one receiving the most guilt and blame is a traumatised 13 year old who only ever acted on Bruce’s orders as per Bruce’s plan and was forced to watch his grandfather figure die

I'm reading the "Under the Red Hood" and up until when it starts to recount how Jason Todd was always grimdark, I really enjoyed it.

I don't like Alfred here. Simple reason: I don't think Alfred likes Jason. Or liked, even while this kid still was alive and lived with them. He's too quick to offer to get rid of the memorial, which - yeah, having that glass 'good soldier' case is insulting to the memory of Jason on so many levels. But that's not what moves Alfred here. It's more of 'let's get rid of a single thing that reminds you it's your fault the child is dead' than anything.

And yeah, Alfred is the one who recounts for the audience what a bad egg Jason was.

It's... What if Alfred has never really liked Jason? Jason liked him, sure. Alfred was in it only for Bruce's sake, because this was his new emotional support sidekick.

I mean. I know in the older stuff he is nice to Jason and says nice things about Jason. But he isn't an asshole, okay, so if he had some less than charitable thoughts about him, he would have kept it to himself. Also, Bruce. Alfred goes along with it because he's always goes along with what Bruce does, pretty much.

And this is, like, huge, for me. Because in Rebirth they have their brunches together or whatever; so at some point, Alfred saw something in him. Long past the time when Bruce stopped looking.

And that's, for me, kinda more precious. Because you can be nice to and care for a kid of someone you love, it's easy. You love them, they love the kid, ergo must be good to the kid. But if they don't give a fuck about the kid? And you care for the kid in spite of it? That's something.
