#this has been and continues to be The Best #i mean i get if you wanna go platonic bros (ok that’s a lie - i will TRY to get that but like give me time) #but this is such a thing #i mean I think what i’m enjoying most about these two is that they get the cutesy infatilised moments when people can be all ‘aww sweaters’ #and you can take it to a piggy backrides and hairbraiding place sure #and that reads perfectly believable and in character #while happening at the SAME TIME as this nonsense #this completely unambiguous 'this would go to a non-pants place if they were alone’ thing #and those two concepts don’t kind of eclipse the other #so there’s less danger of mako appearing hypersexualised bc she ALSO gets cute cardigan moments in her room #and it allows this kind of thing to happen without it being in a genre vaccuum of stereotypes #you need both character moments and both character dynamics in order for it not to get grotesque #like both characterisations ARE stereotypes sure but allowing time for BOTH takes it to a place where they both seem more real #and where a 'sexy sparring’ scene is pretty much a standard in exploitation genres it would be that if this happened in isolation #but allowing mako a lead-in to this scene and picking up later re: her reactions turns this from #bowchikawowow same old routine for the same old audience and makes it OH SHIT THEY LIKE EACH OTHER AND WANT TO BANG (x)
