My name is Enola, which, backwards, spells “alone.” But I now see that being alone doesn’t mean I have to be lonely. I am a detective, I am a decipherer, and I am a finder of lost souls. My life is my own. And the future is up to us.
011 - “Maybe we can call you El. Short for eleven”
El, you’re not the monster. You saved me. Do you understand? You saved me.

↳ STRANGER THINGS — friends don’t lie
STRANGER THINGS (2016- ) Season 1 | Episode 2
My name is Enola, which, backwards, spells “alone.” To be a Holmes, you must find your own path. My brothers have, my mother has, and I must, too. But I now see that being alone doesn’t mean I have to be lonely. Mother never wanted that. She wanted me to find my freedom, my future, my purpose. I am a detective, I am decipherer, and I’m a finder of lost souls. My life is my own. And the future is up to us.

If you don’t stop looking at me like that, Viscount Irritation, Marquess of Bothersomeshire, I’ll murder you myself.
ENOLA HOLMES (2020) | dir. Harry Bradbeer
The film Enola Holmes is bristling with flower symbolism, so it seems important here that the Viscount Tewskbury, Marquess of Basilwether gives Enola a pink rose. Sure, he’s high-key flirting, but most importantly, pink roses are more gentle than red roses, which explicitly symbolise romantic love. Pink roses symbolise gratitude and joy, they’re seen as a token of admiration and appreciation when given to someone.
Which very much makes sense given that the conversation prefacing this present involves Enola admitting she’d tracked him down because he’s in danger.
“I’ve come here because I’ve grown to like you more in your absence, and because, as it turns out, your life is still in danger.” “What’s made you like me more?” “Really? That is your question? Not ‘Who is trying to kill me?’”
Meaning that despite his blasé attitude, the Viscount Tewskbury, Marquess of Basilwether is grateful Enola is going through all this trouble for him; and he makes his appreciation known in the most Victorian England way possible. I just think this is a neat detail to include.
you’re being emotional. it’s understandable, but unnecessary.
