1500 people went into the sea when Titanic sank from under it. There were 20 lifeboats floating nearby, and only one came back. One. Six were saved from the icy water; myself included. Six out of 1500. Afterwards, the 700 people in the boats had nothing to do but to wait. Wait to die. Wait to live. Wait for an absolution, but would not come until dawn.

“We had shot tests with a number of actresses. After several actresses, Kate Winslet came in. She gave her reading and I’m thinking: “If this isn’t Rose, I don’t know who is”. Besides being a great actress and seeming to possess the role of Rose from the first take on, she had a presence and a command for someone so young that made you think here was somebody solid all the way through and who was going to be consistent and there and true to form from day one to the very end.
