you know what really upsets me about the modern seven of nine story is the erasure of the wildmans

like... you cannot tell me seven didn't see naomi as family, that she didn't love her and care about her and at least by extension samantha and you also can't tell me they wouldn't welcome seven into their lives once Voyager gets home and idk... I feel there's a big jump in these intervening years that I want more explanation for

(But who am I kidding when has any star trek writer actually cared about Samantha Wildman)

Ok but can we, for one second, talk about what Thor found when he came back to Asgard?

okay. So. I needed to sit on this. Confession: It hadn’t even registered at first the implications of the little blue icicle in the play. And I can’t take it lightly, I have to assume that some thought must have gone into it, because a throwaway line like “we were 8″ costs nothing, but casting a little boy and painting him blue and the works does. I have to believe that someone at some point must have said “wait a minute, was it even a well-known fact in Asgard that Loki was a little blue icicle?” (maybe even Hiddleston himself, because he’s thorough, but Taika clearly did his homework and he’s a clever man, so.) Yes, it might have been a “oh who cares, it’s cute to have the entire first film and second condensed into a joke to give the tone of what we’re about to do here, lighten up and have fun”, but I fricking won’t.

So I don’t know what they were trying to do, but if we go into the story and look at it from the inside now, I have to conclude that this was indeed a master move by Loki. Coming from the Allfather, the reveal of Loki’s true parentage had a better chance of being accepted. Showing him as an adorable itty bitty blue icicle would also help a lot.

Loki’s Jotun origins are, in Asgard’s eyes, possibly his biggest “flaw”. As far as Asgard goes, it’s probable that Loki’s actions on Midgard or against Jotunheim didn’t raise many eyebrows. And he DID kill Laufey when he was about to murder Odin in his sleep (the small detail that he was the one who let Laufey in can either be brushed over as rumor or concealed, or explained away as the one thing that would bring Laufey to Asgard without an army, thus making him very fatally vulnerable.) And as for Loki’s previous shenanigans allowing frost giants in, and having secret dealings with them… They are either still secret or, again, explained as a cunning strategy to gain their trust and, eventually, put him in the position of killing Laufey.

So. In summary. I’m going to go with master move by Loki to keep cleaning his name and glorifying his figure, while protecting it from slander (if somebody did discover he was a frost giant and tried to use it against him), so an exercise in spin and controlling information.

I can imagine the moment in the play when a helpless babe is rescued by the great king and brought home and put in Frigga’s arms (*not a dry eye in the entire audience*).

I really want to think about Loki’s kingly days a lot now, and possibly write about him writing, casting, and rehearsing the play. Dammit, I wish they had shot that as a DVD bonus or something!! With those cameos!! With Hopkins impersonating that Loki (”oh shit”) and Loki “You had one job” around, bless. PLEASE GOD I HOPE THIS EXISTS

SPOILERS

(I love this)

Brilliant analysis. I also left the theatre wondering about this, and it’s great to see that someone shares my thoughts.

I took it a little further in my pondering, I think yes, it is absolutely a purposeful and brilliant PR move by Loki but it was also because I’m certain that he had a 80 step plan where Odin would make a heap of changes and there would be heaps of PR that brought Loki in as a hero and accepted by the allfather in all his blueness, instead of the outcast or monster or whatever and then he’d come back at some point like yay! I’m alive and Odin would be weeping and all ‘my son! Back from the dead!’ and then Odin would go into the Odin sleep or something and loki would be on the throne because thor bailed.

But then thor comes back and wahhhhh 😩 his plans are foiled.

because it’s put in as a joke but like I discussed in another post he was making significant changes like pulling martial rule out of other realms and supporting thespians and sculptors and attending a bunch of administrative meetings so it seemed like he meant to stick around… or he’d eventually gift them with democracy like some fic writers have written which is a concept I also love.

When I first saw it, I actually had an “Oh!” moment in the theatre when it was shown that Loki had clearly set up this reveal to the general public. We don’t know to what extent Asgard knew of his true parentage, even if people suspected, I doubt it was /known/.

I was impressed not only that Loki seems to be okay with this being known, but also that he himself seems okay with it? That’s like… a major piece of character development.

And “Odin’s” speech after “Loki’s” death was really telling too. It was obviously a look into what Loki really wants/wanted to happen; for Odin to accept him, to love him, and for Loki to have Odin’s approval not only in spite of who he is, but maybe even /because/ of who he is.

totally! It’s so jam packed full of interesting implications and most people will miss it because lol matt damon (which admittedly was hilarious)

instantly iconic line from Ensign Tilly in this week’s Star Trek: Discovery

I’m finally starting to get why Tilly was coupled with Michael.

She’s the perfect counterpoint to Michael’s Vulcan disengagement. The perfect companion as Michael learns to balance her humanity and her Vulcan upbringing. Tilly feels stuff intensely. And not in a destructive way! Her feelings doesn’t hurt herself or others, they aren’t bursts of anger, violence or resentment. She expresses joyous wonder, happiness and even anxiety in a healthy way.

I love Tilly because she’s relatable, but she also serves the function of a human anchor for Michael.

Taking your own life. Interesting expression. Taking it from who? Once it’s over, it’s not you who will miss it. Your own death is something that happens to everybody else. Your life is not your own, keep your hands off it.

Sherlock Holmes (The Lying Detective, BBC Sherlock)

This shook me up. Sherlock knew how much his ‘death’ affected John. He will never forget it and he will never forgive himself for putting John in that kind of pain.

***CACW SPOILERS***

I can’t stop laughing at Steve’s letter to Tony. He was like “I’m sorry for everything but not really since I grabbed all my pals back from jail and I’ll be basically running the secret avengers now, ring if you need us. BTW when Bucky get his new arm it won’t be Stark tech because T’Challa understands Bucky is a victim and he is also smarter, richer and vibranium is way more strong and light than any other metal thank you very much”

Anonymous asked:

Ohh you should break down how you predicted it. I mean, I believe you I just think that would be very very interesting

Sure thing:

Throughout the episode the necklace goes around like hot potato - anyshow would do this to build suspense. Also foreshadowed in the promo where Fitzis holding the necklace.

Everyone ends up in near death situations - it’s a finale. Andpromoters of the show have been hyping up the fact that someone will die.Obvious way to build suspense and create red herrings.

Fitz and Simmons are couple-y and use science to save people and escapesuch near death situations - based on every single episode of AoS ever.

Elena and Mack have a moment where trust is important - I’m assumingthey’re love interests so it’s obvious to me that they would get a moment. In3x17 she tells him, “I trust you.” This was broken a bit by the end of theepisode. They would come full circle and emphasize that she trusts himcompletely again. Let me reiterate that I did not predict that she would get shot.

He also has a moment with Daisy where he says he doesn’t blame her forher actions - at no point has Mack ever blamed Daisy for her actions. Ifanything, he has always blamed himself. He has always seen her as his partner. Also, they were hugging in the promo.

May is…May - …self-explanatory.

At some point Coulson finally decides that Lincoln is a good agent -Coulson said he’d decide if Lincoln is good enough to be an agent in 3x14. Thiswould come full circle in the finale where he finally decides that he is. Justin time for Lincoln to die of course. Tv, man. I didn’t predict that Lincolnwould quit instead.

Daisy feels guilty but also wishes she was still with Hive because of herwithdrawal - for the first part, you could tell how guilty she felt whenshe said that Andrew died for her. She could barely look at anyone. For thesecond, I know how addiction works. I figured she’d tell someone, but I didn’tpredict that she’d get on her knees and beg to be with Hive again.

Hive ends up in the base. I’m assuming they capture him and bring himthere as that sounds extremely stupid and therefore most likely - Ward,Malick, Lash, and Cal where all captured and brought to the base. It’s notoriginal. It’s still dumb.

We finally see Hive’s real face - the fact that they hid it in 3x16and haven’t shown it since means they were waiting to pull it out for thefinale.

Daisy tries to sacrifice herself with the warhead - based on howguilty Daisy seemed to feel in 3x20. It didn’t surprise me that she wouldbelieve it should be her on that jet. People on tv always seem to jump to that. Also, the writers really love Daisy and would put either her or Coulson at theforefront of the biggest moment of 3B. I bet on Daisy because of the guilt andbecause I guessed Lincoln would die.

but Lincoln stops her and sacrifices himself instead with Hive on board- Lincoln was the obvious choice for the death. Elena and Joey, while loveable, aren’t important enough. Coulson and Daisy would obviously be fine (he’s ClarkGregg, she’s the show’s central inhuman based on a comic book character and theshow has extensively invested in her). Mack receiving the necklace in 3x20screamed red herring to me. And honestly, I didn’t think they would dare killMack so soon after killing Andrew because of the racist tag that would follow(and people are still upset about Trip). Not Fitz because they showed himholding the necklace in the promo and that was also an obvious red herring tome. May and Simmons were more plausible to me and I wondered if it could be oneof them instead a couple of weeks ago, but I ultimately came to the conclusionthat it wouldn’t be: not May because they just lost Bobbi and Hunter so losingthe best field agent seemed unlikely. Also Coulson just had his “a woman I caredabout died” storyline and rehashing it so soon also seemed unlikely. And not Simmonsbecause they run the risk of losing a lot of viewers and I don’t think they canafford that tbh. And once again, Fitz’s “I lost the woman I love” storyline didn’t happen that long ago either. In the end, Lincoln was obvious and the easiest. His deathwould leave a serious void in Daisy, so it would be important, and because hesplit audiences and wasn’t on the show that long, his death is unlikely to risklosing viewers. Also a) there has been an underlying theme about whether he’sgood enough, whether he can make the right decision, whether he can be a hero (accidentally killing his only friend, trying to kill Lash, threatening to torture Alisha etc)so I figured it would come full circle b) he almost killed his lastgirlfriend - they may as well have put a bright, neon sign on him saying, “but Iwill die for my current one because redemption!” c) he showed in 3x19 that hewas willing to die for Daisy in a heartbeat d) it’s obvious he was filling thevoid he feels (as all inhumans do) with Daisy, and doing anything for thatconnection was a big theme in the last few episodes. I think everyone predictedthat Hive would be on board?

Daisy and Lincoln have an emotional goodbye before he blows up - thisalways happens on tv. Doing it right before he blows up just makes sense? Whenelse are they going to do it?

Daisy leaves SHIELD - this one was mostly a guess (and confirmed tome earlier by another blogger, see previous post) but basically got this fromBuffy. It is a Whedon show, even if it is a different Whedon. Also people on tvseem to leave the people they love when they lose someone/feel overwhelmingguilt.
