(There is a lot more. Rather than give you all the images, I've copied the full text below.)
- This is actually the most hopeful thing I've read since the election. It's hard to believe we'll all be okay just because we're full of spite or we're on the right side of history. It's easy to believe Trump and his administration is a pile of venomous bucket crabs in clownshoes.
- Take that part about grifters and amateur analysts on the left seriously. Scam artists take advantage of panic and desperation, and a lot of us are feeling panicked and desperate. Also, when people are panicked and desperate, their critical thinking skills suck and they don't necessarily come to logical conclusions even when doing their best. God knows I've fallen for scams and dramatic worst case scenarios. The most important thing is to check your sources and be suspicious of dramatic appeals to emotion (though dramatic appeals to emotion don't mean something is false, either).
- Isolation fries your brain. I know there are lots of ways to wind up trapped in an isolating situation, but reach out to other people- preferably multiple groups of other people- any way you can. Volunteering is a good way to do this.
This lines up with a lot of things I have thought since the election. (That's not me approving like I know better, or patting myself on the back. That's relief that I'm not the only one thinking it. :) ) Again, other things to remember: he's 78 and he's clearly in cognitive decline. That will become more and more unavoidable as time goes on. And they DON'T have 2.0 waiting and ready to go; they tried desperately to find that ahead of this election and they failed. He'll have his victories and he'll try to seem unstoppable, but the fact is he is a deeply stupid narcissist and he will fuck up and get in his own way on many issues. People will not like his policies. Popular support matters.
If you really feel like there's nothing you can do, I disagree: you can do your best to take care of yourself, and maybe those around you, particularly the more vulnerable. No one neat trick will fix this, but many things will add up. We have to help each other get through it.
This will suck, it will hurt, and we will see permanent damage. It's also not hopeless and it won't go on forever.
remembering every booster of the harris campaign talking about how stupid and boorish trump was for his stunt at mcdonalds while privately she wanted them to publically and ceremonially award her a special burger diploma
incredible stuff
In the United States candidates seek the blessing of a deity called Burger as proof of their mandate to rule the land
tiny, sweet little ticklish kisses peppered all over ur neck reblog if u agree
Hana-Rawhiti Kareariki Maipi-Clarke, the youngest MP in Aotearoa, starts a haka to protest the first vote on a bill reinterpreting the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi
Goes insanely hard
To provide further context from what I understand the bill wanted to take the rights guaranteed to the Maori in said treaty and expand them to all New Zealand citizens. The issue with that is that it sort of defeats the point of the protections of the treaty.
The Treaty of Waitangi is not even that good of a treaty. But it is better than any treaty the Crown signed with indigenous peoples
And it absolutely was not meant to be
The treaty as written screws over Māori, and was written in Te Reo Māori and English with deliberately misleading translations to Te Reo Māori. I'm not an expert by any means, but basically the Te Reo Māori version has clauses that promise much more independence and sovereignty, while the English version does not
However
The English version promises them rights as Citizens
From what I remember from University 10+ years ago, this clause, this sentence, was added last minute by the writer of the treaty. Like, right before the big signing at Waitangi.
And the Crown was PISSED
Because now they had a legally binding document that promised, in their own language, to treat Māori with the same rights as they would English. Which was absolutely not the goal. The goal was to trick Māori into signing away their lands and that honestly still did happen. The treaty was not a good faith proposal by the Engliah.
But its still better than anyone else got, and it's better than no treaty. And because nowadays we can't just ignore the Te Reo Māori side of the treaty, the government's of the past few decades have been honouring Māori sovereignty, honouring their stewardship of the land, and undoing a lot of the bad faith "sales" or straight up stolen land.
Except our current fuck nuggets, who want to make Te Reo Māori an endangered language again, and steal back that land because they want to mine on it and sell it and they hate that Māori stewardship is so environmentally focused and not profit driven.
So, in a way, the current government is more true to the intentions of the Crown who initially came up with the treaty.
But since those guys were colonising bastards, I don't see "honouring" them as anything good.
Even with criticism of the treaty, without it, Māori would lose a lot of protections to their lands, their culture, their language, and as a country we would go backwards to a time when they were even more discriminated against
Toitū te tiriti
Uphold the treaty
I was actually just up in Ohio for the solar eclipse, and did you know, I'd never seen Spring before?
I thought I had, because down here in Florida we do get some flowers and nice green leaves as the weather shifts from cool to hot, but the trees are never bare and the flowers just blend in with the rest of the trees and in comparison this Actual Spring was some sort of magical wonderland, I swear to god, I've never seen anything like it
Apple blossoms???? are so pretty???????? the subtle changes of the colors, and they take up the whole tree and they're so damn beautiful????????????????? I had never seen them before, we don't have any apple trees down here at all, but now they might be my favorite flower
I'm familiar with cherry blossoms- we do have some cherry trees- but not like this. This tree was entirely pink and stood out so much! No leaves or anything on the trees, just flowers everywhere!!! I see why people like spring and cherry blossoms so much, I think.
And idek what these are but LOOK at that!!!!!!! Life and color!!!! Spring!!!!
So yeah. I went to Ohio and I thought it was beautiful and i wanted to share that with you. Your state is wonderful!!!
Inspired by my coworkers being baffled at me getting up 2 and a half hours before I come in despite living 20 mins away
(Add reasons why you do or don't get up early in the tags if ya want)
Trans people should get like 50 dollars daily to use on stupid purchases they don't need to give them more dopamine
