Like it wasn't just tumblr leftists saying not to vote for Kamala, or at all, because of Palestine. Those were real people I walked past last Saturday in Pennsylvania, a key swing state. They had megaphones in front of Philadelphia city hall and a sizeable crowd. I feel like we can, in fact, say they are partly culpable here.

Observe the difference in the popular vote. Trump actually got fewer votes this year than he did in 2020. So what changed? Maybe it’s the 15 million fewer democrat votes. Where did they go? They didn’t vote for Trump, they didn’t vote 3rd party. They just didn’t vote at all.

Republicans didn’t elect Trump. Democrats did, by refusing to vote.

I’m tired of people acting like Zhongli is a serious and chill guy who would never cause problems on purpose as if he isn’t one of the biggest menaces out of the Seven. He used to throw mountains at Venti for annoying him. He, the god of history, starts fights among historians for shits and giggles. He tried to gaslight the Traveler into thinking he was totally not at the Chasm guys really Aether/Lumine you must be seeing things maybe you should go see Baizhu. When Qiqi wanted “Cocogoat” milk he was like “Oh yeah sure totally let’s go look for it” knowing damn well it was a wild goose chase. He made the Traveler sing to a flower and then was like “Oh would you look at that” when a Whooperflower jumped out to maul them. I love him. He’s like a cat pushing things off the counter to see how people react. I would pay to see him interact directly with Neuvillette because I know for a fact he’d get on that man’s nerves and argue about water tasting just to feel something. Furina used freedom from godhood to take a nap and Zhongli used it to give psychic damage to anyone who talks to him longer than 5 minutes. Iconic.

It's late and I'm emotional but the repeated refrain about how Team RWBY should have just known Ruby was having a breakdown when she actively hid it from them reminds me of my own abuser. "Oh you should have known, you should have known, you should have just known, you're so stupid how did you not just know?" Never communication, never honesty. You should have known. You should be a fucking mind reader or you don't really love me. Every single time, I should have just known, or it was just proof I didn't really love them, because people who really love just know.

And I took that into the world. I hurt in silence because I got the idea that if people really loved me they would automatically know I was in pain. It nearly killed me because the only thing I knew how to do was try and suffer loudly enough for them to hear, because if I spoke up it was just proof they didn't really love me. So when Ruby shuts herself up and bottles it and pushes away the hands reaching out to her but expects it to keep coming anyway, I get that. I've been there. I have empathy for her and for the people around her who loved her and would have helped if she'd only told them she needed them, and I am grateful she ended this story learning that she needs to say it out loud when she needs help.

But my patience is thin when it comes to "If they really loved her they should have known." No, they shouldn't have. Love doesn't come with telepathy, and demanding something they can't provide will only spell heartache for yourself and the people who love you.

So, I understand we’re celebrating, and indeed there’s lots to celebrate. RWBY has a new home with Viz Media. That is awesome, and I (and we) should rightfully celebrate that. But we also should talk about the elephant in the room. What this sort of thing always seems to circle back to.

Money.

Viz bought RWBY because they see it as a valuable ip. Viz has made an investment in the profitability of RWBY. Viz expects RWBY to make them money. And unfortunately we have an obligation to prove them right. Especially if we want to see RWBY continue.

That means that we have to lower our Jolly Rodger’s and subscribe to whatever platform they pick to platform RWBY. Or submitting to the mortifying ordeal of ads if a subscription is out of your budget. That means consuming the official manga, (which I highly recommend if you haven’t read it yet. I own physical copies, and they are fun little reads. They don’t add much to the story, but the art is pretty, and occasionally breath taking), and of course, buying officially licensed merchandise.

I know it sucks, but we live under the oppressive regime of capitalism, and cannot escape its consequences. Viz expects RWBY to be a financial success, and it’s up to us to make sure that happens.

I’ll keep my ears to the ground for official information, and keep making updates with whatever I find, but for now, we can and should celebrate. RWBY is pressing on and so will we! We’re in this together FNDM.
