Warhammer 40k question: do you have any vague world-building ideas for Daemon-Worlds? The ttrpg manuals for Black Crusade, plus certain Black Library novels, have shown how planets in the warp can be inhabited by mortals such as humans. If you don't have anything, then ask me to reblog this with ideas.

Heya, thank you for an ask! I have thought on it for a bit and here are some of ideas that came to my mind based on four Chaos flavours:

  • Slaanesh - going off the artistic side, maybe a whole planet is some kind of an unending theatre performance with inhabitants "playing roles" and gods forbid you forget the script, because your lovely daemon overseers have a penchant for perfectionism
  • Khorne - consider. Blood Ocean. WH40k doesn't have a lot of seafaring stuff to my knowledge, but it can be an interesting opportunity to make it work. Either as something more horror-themed, like Iron Lung, or maybe more kind of Pirates of the Bloody Seas
  • Tzeentch - I think it can be a possibility to introduce some borderline trollish trimetravel, trimeloop or space distortion shenanigans. Different speed or even direction of time in different areas, interlocking and randomly appearing time loops and bubbles, etc
  • Nurgle - I believe ideas of an entire planets being living bodies already exist in the canon, but it can be a funny setting for some nurglite intervention with disease spreading and people trying to survive in this mess. Alternatively, what about a place where death is not really a thing and horrific implications of people continuing to exist in a state akin to ancient cultists in the Ritual movie?

WH40k friends, I call upon you in time of need.

I need your suggestions on books, stories, codexes for someone interested in necrons and Knight Houses, preferably not requiring a very deep lore understanding to get into.

I know that for necrons Infinite and Divine is usually noted to be a great book, but the only other I have heard about is the Twice Dead King series?

And for Knights I am a bit lost beyond pointing to some of recent codexes, maybe.

For Knights?

Assassinorum: Kingnaker.

Lazarus: Enmity's Edge is set on a Knight world. Admittingly, main focus on Lazarus of the Dark Angels and the events that called them there but it's there.

Mechanicus from the Horus Heresy novels has a subplot involving a team of knights.

Gate of Bones (2nd Dawn of Fire book) has also a subplot involving knights.

Can't think of more right now.

@askrobouteguilliman40k @historitor-bookshelf thank you so much for your suggestions and help! I believe these would be a good addition to the small collection I make for a friend c:

As decided in the previous✨Build a Heretic✨poll, our Heretic is a psyker! Just look at this crisp, shiny certificate!

The next step is quite important, as it would determine such things as advanced specialization and assortment of traits, mutations and weapons to pick from...

Remember, however, that Khorne can be quite negative about psykers and the way of Chaos Undivided is quite complicated for those, who dream of the daemonhood ascension!

(You can check the previous poll HERE)

As decided in the previous✨Build a Heretic✨poll, our Heretic is a relatively normal human! Our next step is to decide on the overall archetype flavor among the original ones available for humans!

Worry not, as the next step will touch upon allegiances to either Chaos Undivided or one of the Gods will allow up to pick one of the expanded versions of archetypes as well!

(You can check the previous poll HERE)

I haven't posted here in a bit, but, let me try to sell you on, I think, fun idea for this blog...

✨Build-a-Heretic✨

Allow me to elaborate. I have recently came upon the Black Crusade tabletop RPG system which is, as you can guess, about daily life (and struggles with the upper management) of variously damned denizens of the Grim Dark Future.

So, what about making a Little (Heretical) Guy together, roughly following the game rules? I will post polls, you will vote and I will be sketching out the resulting fellow.

First poll, for example, would be deciding if we want to have a relatively normal human or a brickhouse of a space marine.

Does it sound fun to you?

I was tagged by @argisthebulwark and @skyrim-forever to fill out this tag game and so here I am c: Fashionably three days late, as usual, I am sorry, folks.

Last song listened to: out of less obscure things - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land by MARINA. Out of more obscure things specifically of a "a lot of weird screaming in Russian" - Exterminatus by HMKids, a fan 40k song.

Currently watching: I am slowly rewatching W.I.T.C.H. animated series! Hey-ho, old obsession of mine.

Currently reading: rereading W.I.T.C.H. comics and, quite unexpectedly for myself (and because it was like, two bucks for a soft cover), picked up Russian translation of The Cannibal Tree of Dark Hill by Soji Shimada.

Current obsession: TES brainrot is eternal, then we have W.I.T.C.H., of course, my Original Setting (that I am now posting weekly on my Boosty, check the link in pinned) and mildly WH40k.

___

Same @skyrim-forever and @bostoniangirl21 have also tagged me to list 5 things I enjoy, so in no specific order:

• I love the new keyboard I bought for my office job. It is very pretty, has a nice thock to it and takes less space. Make my work that much more exciting.

• I love the watermelon season here in Motherland. Always brings me joy and reminds me about how nice summer can be. Looking forward to seeing my favorite grapes in stock again!

• I am looking forward and enjoy working more on my original setting and sharing it with people. I mean, I don't think it is that great, but I am still happy when people seem to find it fascinating, even if ridiculous anime shit.

• Well, Baldur's Gate release draws near, so I am quite excited for this as well, I suppose? I general I am happy to have so much entertainment these days and all just for me. Love me some bibeo gaems.

• Also you know what? Tomorrow I will eat a delicious potato-and-mushrooms pie for lunch and an ice-cream sometime later, I quite enjoy this as well.

• Hey! Bonus fact! I enjoy and am blessed by the fact that I have met so many wonderful people over the years with whom I can chat about such important topics as "OC deep lore", "ridiculous AU", "have you seen that thing?!" and just about everything else really.

1 and 2 for the fandom asks

Avatar

Asks to Spread Love - HERE, Accepting more! Thank you for an ask

1. A fanon characterisation that you love

Now, I love how TES fandom will find the most obscure background NPC, proceed to run an Interpol worthy investigation into any crumbs of lore, extrapolate the rest and bam, you have a fully realized novel-worthy persona.

This is really fascinating to me and I tip my hat in respect.

This however also makes it hard for me to really judge fanon characterisations from something that people legitimately take from canon, because I am, for all intends and purposes, is media illiterate.

However I think there are some interesting takes on Elisif, a lot of people go pretty in depth with Ulfric and I can respect that. ISQ wrote an entire thesis on Ralof and Hadvar and I tip my hat twice. Not to mention all the different Miraaks.

2. Tell us why you love one of your OCs or an obscure canon character (link to any fics/art you have featuring them!)

I adore, and I repeat - adore, Captain Valmir. What a lad, really.

Just. To came up with a plan so blunt and convoluted at the same time. To commit to the cosplay on this level and to fail so gloriously. I love this mer. Stole him for my story with him, Cassia and a friendly daedra Wraith. Have no regrets.

As for my OCs, well, out of TES ones I would love to talk about Autaracu Alata, because, funnily enough...

From a certain point of view, her artistic talents after getting Purified by Meridia is as prefect and purged of imperfections as everything else. Ability to perfectly recreate anything she wants in paints, just ever so slightly off somehow and always rather lifeless. Which was created without any links to it, but I guess Meridia kind of made one perfectly fine ayleid into one of those picture AIs?

Also unrelated to TES, but since I was thinking about him a lot lately, my WH40k guardsman Sanya. Yes, this is author bias and plot armor, but I love to make a silly little guy with a big heart and toss him to go and unfuck a completely fucked over galaxy one vagabond at a time. He is a special silly little guy succeeding against all odds and common sense.

10 and 17 for the Asks to Spread Love!

10. A popular character you actually really like and why

In terms of TES, I would say I am quite fond of good old Partysnacks and he will forever be a very special character for me. I love his vibes and I think he is just very neat, and I love to imagine my LDB spending a lot of time with him, just chatting and learning.

In Warhammer... I mean, I am not sure how exactly popular Magnus and Roboute are, but I adore them quite a lot. Yes, taking into account the whole "everything and everyone in WH sucks" side of it. I am still very fascinated by them and they are of the blorbo status.

Also everyone know that I absolutely adore Escanor sibs from W.I.T.C.H., but you know.

17. Something you love that you don’t often share because you’re worried what others will think

Oh, plenty of things, mainly related to my original setting and various AUs I don't always know how to properly explain and get my point across. Especially considering how much context I always need for everything.

With AUs this is also because of how fluffy and saccharine, and for lulz they mostly end up being. And everyone seems to like more serious things and all, you know.

I’m new to Warhammer and got into it because a friend really likes the Orkz. Where do you suggest to go from there?

Avatar

Well, in my case I got interested in Primarchs, so my go to was to go and check out Horus Heresy, but if you are here for the delightful green boyz - I am unfortunately not the best person to ask.

Might suggest you checking out wikis like Lexicanum to see if you will get interested in any particular events or sub-factions of Orkz or named characters and navigating from there to see in which books or games they appear! There is also, of course, a question if you are more into space orks or fantasy orks! Or maybe both!

I also think I got at least few people following me who would be happy to show you around and maybe provide and book recommendations or generally useful resources :D
