I've been thinking so much about your Húrin post and one aspect really stuck with me! The bit you mentioned about the spiders! Because I've always been reminded when reading CoH of the Scandinavian folktale of the troll or demon eye that splinters and those who get shards of it see through the eye of the troll or demon. And it warps and clouds their judgement. And especially the way Melian describes what Húrin endured sounded somewhat similar!
So I just was reminded of that!
Ooooooh! This seems like a perfect match, seriously!
And a better way to put in words what I had on my mind while writing that one post, to be fair.
Thank you for sharing the idea, I think it really does fit. I wonder if in Hurin case this kind of clouded judgement might have been even bigger part of curse and torture, compared to any sort of physical sight thing.
As in, putting accent and focus on events in the worst possible way for him and all, if it makes sense? I am admittedly not that great with putting ideas to words, my bad, hahaha
