Don't get me wrong I love incorrect quotes/Twitter posts for the maze runner but ever time I see newt dumbed down to "wish I was dead but I have a something more important haha" jokes a losses my mind a little more. Newts character is so much more than when he tried to kill himself in the maze, and his death was way more than a fulfillment of a wish to be dead.

Newt would not have been one of the gladers to escape the maze if that's all he was. If newt didn't want to be there he wouldn't have been newt is stubborn (not as much as thomas but we are shown this fact many times in the books and movies) newt decided he wanted to live before he even met thomas because if he hadn't he wouldn't have been there. He fought like hell to live and to see a world outside of the maze and wicked. To see everything he did and how much he had to fight be dumb down to "sad boy wants to die" is really a huge misread of his whole character.

Here me out maze runner twisters au... (slight twisters spoiler) a 20 something newt (kate) gose out to test his theory on how to "tame" tornadoes. His team has minho(javi), albey(jeb) and 2 other random gladers ,Don't care who barley matters, that go in to the path of a tornado ,minho stays on the outside to map it, the rest go in they believe the tornadoe to be a ef-1 and it turn out to be a ef-5 being unprepared they need to ditch there car and run to shelter. during the run, newt's leg gets injured, and he has to run on still. He is the only one to make it to the shelter. An ambulance finds him after minho called 911 after contract with the group got cut off.

5 year time jump. We find out newt and minho haven't been talking. Minho finds newt after talking to his sister Sonya(Kate's mom). Minho tries to convince newt to come storm hunting with him again because he believes newt is the best. after looking into what mihno said, more newt realizes that mihno is on to something. Newt promises mihno one week of his time to help his project gain footing. Newt meets thomas(tyler) and his team of storm chasers (Brenda Vince, etc. You know the lot) right after he gets to camp.

Idk how solid this idea is, but it won't leave my head. Maybe there is a small overlap of people on this app who might enjoy the drama that this would be.
