little portraits of crew members because I guess I can keep posting I didn't expected to get any feedback at all wow
I keep seeing posts about the differences between the book and the Ghibli adaptation of Howl's Moving Castle, and honestly there's a totally charming interview with Diana Wynne-Jones at the end of the kindle edition about how it worked :)
I adore this. I feel like this version has a little more info than the one in my edition.
Looking up Exmoor, I’m totally struck by how “right” it looks to how I imagined Ingary, versus Cardiff where it’s like, ah, I see where that research went back to Miyazaki.
The presence of the war in the movie versus the book is such a fascinating hinge point. I remember another interview about Jones’ meeting with Miyazaki over the film where she spoke on her perception of people versus his. Jones said she sees bad people as more static whereas Miyazaki has enormous hope and belief that people change, or at least astonish us with a gesture of inherent goodness.... which adds up, since every DWJ conflict involves a total gremlin, usually the protagonist, taking a bite out of the world, whereas Miyazaki writes noble dreamers and idealists up against their local military industrial complex...

I had a lot of fun with this commission for the very kind @beauty-in-the-chaos ! My only factors to work with was waist-up and their favorite color was teal!
