“Cristiano Ronaldo’s generous donation will help us to support children from Aleppo and across Syria, who have suffered things children should never have to live through. We are tremendously grateful for his life-changing support.
Ronaldo is not only one of the world’s most iconic sports figures, but he also has become a beacon of hope for millions of boys and girls worldwide — and hope is something that Syria’s children need now more than ever.“
- Save the Children director Nick Finney
"This is for the children of Syria,” Ronaldo said in a video message posted to his social media accounts Friday. “We know that you have been suffering a lot. I am a very famous player, but you are the true heroes. Don’t lose your hope. The world is with you. We care about you. I am with you.”

Cristiano Ronaldo surprises kids in Save the Children program | July 18, 2015
After Real Madrid’s friendly this past Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo spent time with kids from Save the Children’s Fitzroy Adventure Playground, a program that helps youth from refugee and disadvantaged backgrounds.

These kids got the surprise of their lives when they were greeted by football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday evening. The children, who are all huge soccer fans, regularly attend Save the Children’s Cubbies program, located at the base of the Atherton Gardens Housing Estate towers in Fitzroy, Melbourne.
Surprise visit to disadvantaged kids from Melbourne
The children, aged 9 to 14, are part of the Save the Children’s Fitzroy Adventure Playground program, which helps young people from refugee and disadvantaged backgrounds. They were each given free tickets for the game courtesy of Ronaldo, a global ambassador of the charity.
“It was probably the best night of my life. It’s not every day you get to meet Ronaldo,” said Mohamad, 16, whose family fled to Australia from Afghanistan.“I actually just froze when he came in. I was a bit shocked to see him. It was really fun to be there.”
The children only found out on the way to the ground that they’d get to meet the Ballon d’Or winner after the match.
Save the Children runs the Fitzroy Adventure Playground (Cubbies) – a community based adventure playground for children aged 5 to 16.
“Meeting Ronaldo is a real ‘pinch me, am I dreaming?’ moment for a lot of the young people at Cubbies. Going to the MCG is a rare treat in itself but watching Real Madrid and meeting their footballing hero is something most people wouldn’t even dream of.“

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Save the Children as a Global Ambassador at the beginning of 2013. “When I learned that one in seven kids around the world go to bed hungry each night, I jumped at the chance to get involved.,” Ronaldo said at the time. “It is an honour to join Save the Children. I want to work with them to make sure that fewer parents will have to struggle with putting the right kinds of food on the table.”
