I don't think getting married would immediately fix him, even if it was with someone he deeply cared about, like Charlotte. We can see how he isn't the nicest to his much younger brother, and considering how much he changed when Jenny "left", he definitely picked on kid Pete

Ted's whole character is being an asshole who never gets what he wants, he is meant to lose at everything and be extremely lonely. If he were to get what he wants in life, it would't take long for that thing to leave him, as we've seen in canon

I guess that's why I find happy ending AUs with him kinda funny, ngl. Do what you want of course, but that man is destined to be miserable and that's why I love him 🐐

Thinking about how Max Jägerman from NPMD is a perfect example of how just a line or two of dialogue can add so much more for people to be able to extrapolate about a character.

“No no no, this is like the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me” and “Where Max? Back home so Dad can call you a little cuck?” Gave us so much to work with and they weren’t part of some big story defining speech or anything.
