B being B
thinking about a Lonely Place of Dying and the significance of Batman being trapped in a home that has literally been flipped upside down (by loss) and brought to ruin (by grief) and the fact that he has fallen into the depths (of a basement) and he brought Dick with him and now it feels like the entirety of this house, and figuratively his home, is crashing down around them. And it’s like,,,, YEAH! LOSING A CHILD IN A HORRIBLY TRAGIC WAY WILL DO THAT TO YOU!!!!
and I’m also thinking about how Robin is the one who pulls him out. Tim is the one who saves him.
Tiny little Jason Todd used to play baseball
Imagine tiny little Jason Todd writing poetry on his glove like Allie from the Catcher in the Rye
Crying, sobbing, screaming, thinking about Bruce wandering the library at night and finding a note in Jason’s handwriting, hidden in a book of poetry.
His bitter laugh comes out as a whimper, and the words fall from his trembling lips, unbidden: “Vainly I had sought to borrow, from my books… surcease…” the recitation trailed off before ending with a heavy sigh, its rhyme scheme abandoned. Shaking hands gently clasp the book, they press the pages to his hollow chest, and an echo murmurs back the word, “Jason.”
Batman #431
"I thought that I held the corpse [...] in my arms [...] and I saw the grave-worms crawling in the folds of the flannel."
Frankentodd: 15/?
Batman #450
Scarred by past trauma, filled with regret, and crippled by self-doubt? I eat this shit up. Hell, he even threw in an ominous portent at the end!
Batman #443
Somebody help this man.
Detective Comics #609
Bruce is finally starting to process Jason's death, but he's only able to do it through the use of layered allegories while discussing the villain of the week.
Batman #439
"Jason... For the first time in months, that name comes to his lips."
Thank God for Marv Wolfman. Batman: Year Three is a fucking masterpiece. So much good Nightwing content. So much post-Jason angst. The characters truly shine, and there is a lot of cool lore that makes it's debut here (not to mention tiny baby Tim!!!!) This one is a must-read for me.
Batman #439
"You came so close. Why did you shut down all over again?"
It's a little something I like to call ~trauma~
Batman #439
"--you considered letting him die."
Batman #420
Huh...turns out the KGBeast didn't die in that subway tunnel after all. Unless Dick's referring to a different criminal that Batman lured into an underground death trap...?
Batman #432
Bruce keeps a glossy jpeg of Jason in his utility belt :' (
Batman #432
Holy dramatic irony, Batman!
Batman #431
Who says Batman isn't relatable?
Batman #431
Time to watch this man spiral. I was planning on skipping right to Tim's introduction, but I had forgotten how delicious the post-Jason angst was.
Batman #429
And then Bruce killed him. The end.
