Holy Plastic Bricks: First Images From 'The Lego Batman Movie' Are Here!

Written by Creator Tom Chapman

One sure fire way to take someone back to their childhood is to combine two things they love, in this case - Lego and Batman. The Warner Bros. cash cow has done just that with their upcoming LEGO Batman Movie.

The first LEGO Movie in 2014 was a 'smash brick' that took us all by surprise, grossing over $469 million and starring the likes of Chris Pratt, Morgan Freeman and Will Ferrell. It captured the imagination of children and adults worldwide, but it was Will Arnett's performance as the grouchy Lego Batman which stole the show:

I only use black... and sometimes dark shades of grey

As of March 2015, The Lego Movie has a planned sequel and three spin-off movies — the first being The Lego Batman Movie. A trailer is soon expected to drop out of the toybox, but in the meantime we have these pictures, while director, Chris McKay, has given us a few titbits.

Arnett returns as the Caped Crusader and is helped by his butler Alfred, this time played by the impeccable Ralph Fiennes. Together they are joined by Robin and Batgirl (played by Michael Cera and Rosario Dawson), to take on The Joker — played by Zach Galifianakis. Whether Galifianakis can match up to the vocal talents of Mark Hamill is unknown, but we are willing to give him a chance.

The Batman franchise is nothing new to Lego. Batman was introduced in toy form in 2006, before branching into gaming with Lego Batman: The Videogame in 2008. A sequel (Batman 2: DC Superheroes) introduced the likes of Superman and Wonder Woman, while the third (Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham) took the cast of the Justice League into space.

There is now a continuing line of Lego sets featuring the Dark Knight, as well as reams of other merchandise. While a Lego Batman has graced our screens before in several Cartoon Network specials and a direct to video spin-off from the second game, The Lego Batman Movie is the first time a brick Bruce Wayne will be in theaters.

While the pictures don't give much of the plot away, it seems that Batman is going around his usual day-to-day business. Arnett told USA Today it is great to return to the role:

Batman is an island onto himself, the only thing he doesn’t have is relationships...We're making About a Boy as directed by (action director) Michael Mann

Certainly when you have Zack Galifianakis as your Joker, you should't expect a Jared Leto/Suicide Squad performance. That is all we have until a trailer is released and unfortunately we won't be firing up the Lego Batwing until February next year, which gives us plenty of time to build our own Lego Batcave to wait in.

Why Batman Killing In BvS: Dawn of Justice Is A Good Thing

Written by Creator David Jensen

With only a few days left until the premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans are about to have their childhood dreams come true by seeing Batman share a screen with Superman for the first time in live action.

But with any movie property of this magnitude and handling characters so iconic, there's bound to be backlash about what changes are made when the characters are adapted from comic page to movie screen. So with that, I'd like to address some of the differences Zack Snyder and Co. may (or may not) have decided to go with in the movie compared to their comic-book counter parts, evidence to support the theories and why it could be a good thing...

What We Know

An Older, Grizzled Batman

With the (arguably brilliant) casting of Ben Affleck in the iconic role, among other things, we know that Bruce Wayne has been the caped crusader for roughly 20 years. With this fact alone, we know we will be getting a version of the character that is more worn down, he's dealt with enormous loss (which I'll address), and from what we've seen, it'll be the most brutal incarnation of the Dark Knight we've ever seen. Count me in!

Batman Hates Superman

After the enormous loss of life that occurred during the final act of Man of Steel, we know from the trailers that Bruce Wayne was near by during the fight between Superman and General Zod and had some personal connection to those lost during the destruction. Though we're not yet clear about the extent of Batman's knowledge of the incident, we do know that Bruce Wayne blames Superman for the destruction of Metropolis and is worried about the consequences of a being of such power being left unchecked. So what plan could he have to neutralize Superman without killing him? Especially if Superman couldn't even find a way out of killing during his fight with Zod.

Batman v Superman: We Want To Hear Your Predictions!

Batman v Superman is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of the year. But aside from a handful of trailers, there's not much we actually know about the film's story. Sure, Batman and Superman will throw down, we know that - it's in the title of the movie. We also know that Wonder Woman gets involved as well. But why? In this two and a half hour epic, just what exactly is happening?

This is where you come in!

We want to hear your predictions on the big reveals of the movie. Why? Because it'll give you something to do to pass the time. Also, in a few weeks from now we can all look back at this and see exactly how wrong (or right) we were with our predictions. Who knows, some of your predictions might even be featured on a Moviepilot Original video and shared with millions of fans around the world!

With that said, let's get into it. We've got 5 questions for you all and we'd love to hear what you think will happen come March 25th.

Here's what we want to hear your thoughts on:

  • 1. Who do you think is most likely to die?
  • 2. What do you think will be the big twist?
  • 3. How does Robin figure into all of this? Will we see more than one?
  • 4. Whose cameo will be the most memorable?
  • 5. Why do you think Wonder Woman got involved?

Simple enough, right? To get involved all you need to do is create a new post oncreators.co and answer these 5 questions, then publish your post and share the link in the comments below. (Important: Be sure to use the BVSPredictions tag before publishing your post!)

Excited?

Once the video has been made, we'll be sure to let you know and contact the users whose predictions have been used. With less than a week to go, it's never been a better time to be a comic book fan.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25th (like we're not counting!)

Oh No! Looks Like Some of Our Favorite Movie Icons Have Fallen on Hard Times

I'm a photographer and street artist who travels the country placing my artwork on the streets for all to see. I am bit of a nerd when it comes to anything related to comic books, toys and movies. In this series, I photograph toys/action figures from my collection and make them appear as if they have fallen on hard times. While some can't get any more acting gigs, others resort to selling out to corporate America or just want to fit in. If you would like to see what I am currently up to you can check out my website here or find me on instagram @crummygummy.

Man of Tomorrow: A Fan Film Before Batman v Superman!

Four years in the making, screen accurate costumes and legendary set locations like the Kent farm from the Smallville TV series...You might want to have a look on this French fan-film take on Superman.

It starts with a prologue in space, a trip to Earth as in the original "Superman the movie" from 1978 but with new ideas for this short-film format. The scene continues with the camera zooming in the S Superman logo and stopping in Earth's stratosphere with a view on the moon. The next scene on the other hand takes place in the mountains near Metropolis and have a very naturalistic feel about it, more serious and dramatic. Well get ready because the movie will have this feel and ambitious scale the whole 43 minutes, and for sure, you haven't seen any fan-film like this before... At least it's unlike any other Superman fan-fiction around, probably the best one yet.

Man of Tomorrow is a classic coming of age (origins) story. You will see Clark Kent grow into Superman but he will need some help to become the "Man of Tomorrow" we know, this help will come from the Dark Knight himself: Batman!

Yes, Batman is a mentor for Superman in this film, not an enemy nor a rival, in that way this project offers a different point of view than the one we will see in cinemas next month, and that's another good reason to see Man of Tomorrow!

Man of Tomorrow is available since February 4th on Youtube with English subtitles. Check out the Facebook page.
