Re-Animator Fans rejoice! it seems our manic scientist is returning to the big screen in this official adaption.
I'm personally a MASSIVE fan of the Re-Animator movies and H.P.Lovecraft's work, the guy was a genius but so underrated in his time (I can relate lol).
Fans have been craving for another outing for Herbert West, noticeably played by Jeffrey Combs in 1985's Re-Animator, 1989's Bride of Re-Animator and 2003's Beyond Re-Animator, since the early 2000's.
In fact there was talk of a FOURTH movie titled House of Re-Animator but after going through development hell even IMDB dropped it.
Now we have a NEW adventure.....sort of, Deadline reported the official story:
Ron Perlman and Christopher Plummer have been cast in the upcoming animated film Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom from filmmaker (and Arcana Studios CEO) Sean Patrick O’Reilly. The film, based on Bruce Brown’s popular graphic novel of the same name, is being done in conjunction with Shout! Factory. Perlman will voice the role of Shoggoth, and Plummer has been cast in the role of Dr. Herbert West.
Apparently the film is going to introduce a new, young, audience to the writings of Lovecraft by blending his life and work into one.
Ron Perlman will voice Shoggoth, while Christopher Plummer has been cast as Herbert West. Hmm something's not quite right with that sentence because you don't spell Combs with a P.....
Shout! Factory have secured all U.S. rights to the film in all areas — theatrical, digital, broadcast, home entertainment — last year and has rights for cross-platform releases in Canada. The film is scheduled for a fall 2016 release.
Could be sort of a gateway to horror for young kids, hopefully they won't water it down too much though. I mean it's got to have edge otherwise it's not Lovecraft.... SERIOUSLY there must be madness!!
If I built your hopes up for the return of Jeffrey Combs I'm sorry, so as a conciliation prize here's The original Novella by Lovecraft read by....you can figure it out ;)
