ok so tiktok is being banned in the usa and for those who dont know about it, it basically boils down to "erm china stealing data we gotta ban it"
(if you ask me it think its because tiktok isnt controlled by an inside media that can control the narrative of events which makes its people more likely to rebel)
anyway so tiktok was on some trial a while ago and like. the questions they asked. oh my god it was peak idiocy. if i put on headphones is tiktok gonna scan my brain to see what videos i like? does the camera record my eyes to see if the irises dilate when i see a video so that it can tell which videos i like? does tiktok access wifi? (saying yes is somehow bad)
(these are actual questions. asked numerous times)
are you chinese? are you chinese? do you have chinese passport? do you plan on becoming chinese? do you have any association with china? china? are you chinese? chinese? CCP? what are your thoughts on chinese stuff.
"no sir im from Singapore"
like im telling you there is like one competent question (i think it was how the algorithm seemingly pushed minorities to the shadows) and all the other ones make you think youre looking at some mockumentary.
iirc tiktok is made in china but its based in singapore? idk its like, not 100% chinese.
anyway since its getting banned in the usa for "being chinese", people are jumping ship to another app called Xiaohongshu aka rednote.
sidenote: i dont really 100% understand this part, but there was like this communism book which was referred to as "little red book" so calling the app rednote in english is equivalent to calling it "the little commie app"
so bascially the tiktok population went "oh youre banning tiktok because you THINK china is stealing data? yknow what. fuck you. i am joining the actual china app. WITH the communism name. if i have to pick between facebook stealing my data or china, im giving it to china"
