elsevier ending support for mendeley desktop is the final straw that drags me kicking and screaming to zotero, where things are just different enough that i hate them intuitively!! like yes zotero is objectively better for, like, ethical reasons, but i have been using mendeley for over fifteen years. i do not want to change, and, moreover, while i believe in their beliefs i have never met an open-source bro who was anything less than completely insufferable - and the open-source bros on zotero's help forums are somehow even worse.
#probably should've called it quits when elsevier acquired mendeley in the first place but#academia#sorry that i want to CONTROL my own PDFs in PEACE#mendeley won't let me because they want everything stored on the web for dark elsevier capitalism purposes#zotero won't let me because they know better than me what workflow i should be using and i should just trust the tech bros to do it for me#as someone who makes a living - among other much more interesting things - fixing zotero's shitty bibliography outputs#no thank you sirs i want to organise my own folder infrastructure and not leave everything to you#i would like my pdfs available to me outside of your database please and thank you#if zotero ever dies for whatever reason i want to still be able to access my FILES it is a SIMPLE matter of SECURITY oh my GOD#apparently this is not only wildly incomprehensible to my new overlords but also a sign that i am doing research wrong#whatever angel is logging elsevier's sins please be sure to add my grievances to the list thanks xoxo
