Can we talk just a moment about how Eddie Munson is so ADHD-coded? And how well Joseph Quinn (instinctually, or intentionally, I'm not sure) played a teenager with untreated neurodivergency in the 80s?

  • Boy is pure hyperkinesis: Constantly fidgeting, twirling his hair when he talks to Chrissy (ADORABLE), pacing... yes, a lot of it is from the pressure of the unfolding story but look at him before anything bad happened to him. He was like a spring wound too tight even when times were good.
  • Unable to pass English class yet weaving stories with the Hellfire Club, indicative of a mind that hyperfixates on preferred tasks and struggles with tasks that aren't interesting
  • Highly stimulative musical preference
  • Self-medicating with drugs
  • He is very perceptive, empathetic, and he *sees* people for who they are. High emotional intelligence, high empathy (I think this is why he sees the younger students as sheepies to be guided TToTT)
  • SPOILERS FOLLOW

In a normal brain there’s a line of little elves that carefully sort through the piles of short term memory and choose what to send to long term memory to be archived and what will be thrown out because it’s unimportant. Sometimes these elves make mistakes but for the most part they know what’s important enough to keep.

In people with ADHD the short term memory room is run by one extremely overworked guy named Craig who also has an unhealthy fascination with random facts about soup and will several times a day throw everything into the trash in a fit of rage.

This explains why I’m amazing at quoting entire movies after seeing the once but shit at remembering anything that happened when I was 6. Fucking, Craig.

if you’re an ADHD person reading one of my #actuallyautistic posts and wondering ‘do my experiences count for this’ the answer is basically always: ‘if you think they do, then absolutely!’

there is a huge overlap between ADHD and autistic experiences (I’m diagnosed with both). please feel free to relate however you want and add whatever tags feel relevant to you.

(also, you don’t need to have autism or ADHD to relate to my posts on those topics. my whole goal is to educate people by describing my experiences & symptoms in a relatable way. relating to autistic and adhd people is good! it is so much better than the opposite.)
