“I know, I know. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed something like that. You sacrificed yourself for me. I don’t think you’ll ever know just how much gratitude I owe you for that.”
The red head could not seem to contain her excitement as he opened his gift, her hands clasped tightly together as she bounced eagerly on her toes. She cast her affectionate gaze over him, studying every detail upon his face, and how they changed accordingly to the sight of his present. The event of a smile from River was a rare sight, so when Ariana was greeted with a genuine one, she emitted a rather childish squeal, arms quick to envelope him in a hug. “I’m so glad.. And you’re very welcome.”
“This plushie almost didn’t come in time, seeing as it came all the way from Japan.. I love you. You know that, yeah?”
❝ Of course I do. Thank you for this. ❞
He pauses, the smile leaving his face as he ponders a thought. A dumb thought. A really, really dumb one. And yet... He still took hold of his lover’s hands, kissing her knuckles gently. His blue hues looked over her before speaking.
❝ Would you like to go to Japan? With me? That’ll be my gift to you. ❞
He smiled softly, but in the back of his mind, he knew all too well what could happen should he bring her to his home. Ghouls were much more common in Japan than in the Americas. He’d have to stay by her side the entire time. And he’d also have to have enough strength to fight off any possible ghoul that they should come across. Which meant... He’d also have to get a decent amount to eat. He knew all this, and still asked her to go anyways. He just hoped that he wouldn’t regret it.

He spoke softly as he took the gift in his hands. When he opened it, his eyes glanced over the items, his brilliant blue irises shimmered at the present that Ariana had given him. It wasn’t often that he smiled, but this was a special day. His lips curled up as he chuckled, turning his attention to the red haired girl. He flashed her a toothy grin, hoping that it wouldn’t scare her off.

“I understand, Atsuko. And I trust you. As long as you’re safe too, that’s all that I can ask of you. Thank you, for doing your very best to protect me, I value it more than anything else.. It shows you care.”
Despite their current situation seeming so serious, so worrying, Ariana could not help but boast a small, rather bittersweet smile upon being kissed. He was so gentle with her, and she supposed that’s what made her so safe and content when she was with him. Because Ariana knew his extreme strength and capabilities. The fact that he could be so tender with her was reassurance enough.
However, the news he delivered to her made this smile face, and what was left on pale features was a worrisome frown, brows knitted together in concern. Ariana hated being away from him whilst she or Atsuko worked at the best of times, never mind having him in a whole other country. “Atsuko… I’m going to miss you terribly, but I know you have to go. I won’t bother holding you back. But you have to promise me that you’ll be careful, you have to promise me you won’t die. I can’t lose you. And you also have to text or call me whenever you can.” This last part was added as an attempt to lighten the mood, a small giggle being uttered from the red head.
A smile graces his lips as he looks at his beloved. She always knew just what to say to make him happy. He loved her so dearly. The ghoul had no idea what he’d do without her. He ran his fingers through her fiery hair, holding her closer to him. It wasn’t often that she saw him in such a cuddly state. But he knew that he wouldn’t be seeing her for quite awhile.
❝ I’ll be leaving day after tomorrow. I’ll get you a laptop so that we can video call while I’m away, okay? Get your things packed. I’ll treat you to a nice night out tonight. ❞
