Tears had begun to well at the corners, she wasn’t sure if she could handle them hating her twice. However, the fear subsided when his hand came to her head, ruffling it around a bit. Gaze now focused up at him the smile on her lips soon enough picked back up. Joy once more filling it she gave a light nod of her head, understanding why he’d done it a bit better now.
“It’s okay, I’m just really glad you didn’t actually hate me. I didn’t think you did but, you never know.”
This had to look pathetic she figured but, honestly, she didn’t care. River was a good friend from her childhood and she couldn’t have been more ecstatic to see them again. However, a lot had to have changed within the last few years. As such, she proceeded forth with the next question.
“So, what all are you up to now, River? It’s been about a decade so, I’m sure things have changed and happened since.”
He thought for a moment, the memories of past years swirling around in his mind. Not many of them were happy. In fact, most of them were rather sad or painful. He glanced at her, letting his arm fall slack at his side.
❝ Its been... fine. I’m a Ranger now. Except for the fact that most of the other Rangers hate me, I’m doing well. But then again, I never really cared for people did I? ❞
He asked, his eyes not meeting hers. It was true. Even as a child, if he had to choose between a person and a pokemon, he thought the choice was obvious. He never cared much for people. But there had never been a pokemon that had done him wrong.

Guilt flashed across her face as she realized she had taken the other away from his lunch. “I-I didn’t realize you were eating. Sorry.” Her apology was mumbled as she looked toward the ground. All she had heard was the mention of Faunus and she had sprung to her feet, dragging the boy off. “Wait, you actually like Faunus?”
He nodded. His protection of Faunus certainly did not go unnoticed by his peers. In fact, often times he was shunned for it. Although he much preferred that to the times there he’d get jumped and beaten up. He always hated that.
❝ Yes... I’d say they were my friends but I don’t really have any. The Faunus are people. Sometimes I even dare to agree with the White Fang. Sometimes they seem better than people... ❞
