Sometimes, I forget how weird the fandom I’m in can be.

I was reading a Danny Phantom fanfiction, and in the authors note it had a warning which basically said

“warning for typical fanon vivisection”

That just made me have to pause and think, yeah we do have a typical vivisection. It makes sense in our fandom, but also strange that we have one.

I've recently had a talk that basically went

Me: it sucks when you have to skip a few popular fics in the fandom due to them being overly explicit
J: oh, yeah, it's always the freaky porn that gets the most popular. people are horny, deal with it
Me: what? no, I don't mean the porn
J: then what-
Me: vivisection. the fandom I'm in has a knack for vivisecting the main hero, it's, like, in every third fic
J: excuse me it has fucking W H A T

My goodness Cork! You're posting chapters faster than I can keep up! I think I'm still on 8! (It's going to be so amazing when I finally have time enough to read and just go through all of them real quick!) Hope you're making sure to leave time to take care of yourself <3

Thank you!! I hope you like it when you get time to read it all at once <3

Honestly, I'm a very anxious writer, which basically means I hate posting works in progress. It makes my brain go crazy with the need to keep going and keep working until it's done because somehow I always end up seeing my writing as a responsibility (I have issues, yes). My way of solving that particular problem is to never post anything until I'm actually fully done with the main plot (which is why I started posting Married to Winter only after I finished chapter 6 in my drafts, the rest of the chapters were only additional and thus didn't raise my anxiety).

That is to say, I've written Neon Green and Cold Blue in its entirety over the course of one week - back in September I think - before I ever posted the first chapter, so the unposted ones are just chilling in my drafts right now. Which is how I can stick to a schedule in the first place lol

It's also to say that I'm currently slowly working through writing yet another fic that is based off of my Rat Danny and The Guy Who Won't Die posts and is spiraling in some unknown direction :з

I am the exact opposite when it comes to posting fic oh goodness i'm terrible. I'll write out a few chapter before hand, telling myself I'll write it all before publishing and then i dont. I get too excited to share the story that I start posting chapters before I've finished the story and It results in many abandoned works, goodness me. Thankfully, I don't publish often lmao.

Thinking about publishing a new work right now actually. (Gonna get more chapters ready. And maybe try to finish it before posting? But I knowwww it's gonna be a 100,000-200,000 word work? And that is pushing my ability to be patient to the extreme.)(I think I have about 30,000 ready now) I don't know how you're managing to write your stuff in one week! I'm so impressed. And it's all so good. I'm very excited about these new works you're alluding to!

The secret ingredient to writing it in one week is hyperfixation, and I don't recommend it lol

In general, writing anything when my ADHD is on the riot (and it's constantly on the riot since the government here thinks meds are for the weak and neurodivergent people don't exist) is hard as fuck. I come up with a great plot, I outline the chapters, but then, boom, crash, lightning smash, brain not interested anymore, no write. I can't tell you how many ideas I've wasted due to this.

So, my writing style is basically coming up with a starting point, one or two very epic scenes I want to include, and those epic scenes generate enough dopamine juice for me to keep going, and then the approximate end point that should be achieved.

Sometimes shit gets mixed up on the way to the point of no return. For example, when I started writing Neon Green, I planned it not as much of a cyberpunk but more as a space adventure, with Tim (an AI android) and Danny (an eldritch space creature) stuck together on one spaceship, visiting different worlds together and working together to avoid a war between the human sector of space (Justice League) and the, well, the not-human (Amity Park). As you can see, the only thing that was left from that idea is Tim being an AI and some mild war vibes.

Warning, unsolicited advice/sharing ramble coming!

That's exactly how i work too! Unmedicated rampant ADHD over here too. I have so many folders of different version of the same story premise. I probably have over half a million words in different versions of the novel I want to write scatter about in different docs. Some doc have three words. Others have over 100,000. It's bad. It's so bad. And then to motivate myself, I'll try and draw something. And that goes about the same way. I either finish it before the fixation wanes, or its abandoned forever. The problem with my writing is I have a tendency to do long stories, so the fixation never lasts long enough to get through it all. : (

As for what I'm working on now! It's Dragon Age fanfic. I dropped it a long time ago but the recent game release has revitalized my interest and I'm redoing what I have written a little bit to add more to the plot. And the game series has so much lore that it's a given one of my fics are going to be just as convoluted lmao.

The game series is four long now, with the most recent game being published on Halloween after a ten year gap. The fic starts with the events of the third game and includes stuff from the first, second, and fourth installments as well. It's super interesting stuff. I don't know if you're a dragon age fan or not, so I don't want to spoil anything if you are. But that just means the fic is....complicated.

Basically, your main character spends the game repairing a world ending event involving magic, demons, spirits, and a magical disease called the blight. And the fic follows that, but it's time travel premise. So they're shunted back to the beginning to do it all again with scrambled memories. And the heroes from the other games all get involved and we gotta punch gods in the face. It does rely on the reader knowing the basic game lore, but I wonder how it would read without that beforehand knowledge. hm. Stuff to ponder i suppose

Yes, the folders, the graveyard of ideas!

Although, maybe not a graveyard, more like a hall of fame: you will never touch them again, but you just like looking at them. And I can't force myself to just delete them - they are good pieces, I like them, they just don't fit anywhere!

The worst moment is when I've been super-motivated to write something, and it's been going nicely, but then one day I wake up, and I know it's over. It will never be finished. I'll never know how these characters resolve their world-ending situation, because me no write anymore.

I'm not very familiar with Dragon Age (I know of it, but I never played), but it sounds like you're putting a lot of work in it! Complicated lore always tends to be stressful in my case, so putting the contents of four series in one fic sound insanely impressive. And time travel on top of that, wow. (I honestly could never, I suck at using canon lore, I always end up with my own, so I am a little jealous lol)

I wish you the best of luck with getting all the way to punching gods in the face, that sounds like it's gonna be a long journey <3

I'm gonna eat all your fics. DEVOUR. (I only started reading them 3 days ago and there's so many, I don't think I've yet to see a slightly whump or just angst based fic in my criteria <33 I love all your works!! They're so delicious, they taste like leche flan)

If you don't like angst, beware of 'There Are No Living Here', that one can be a bit disturbing. It has a happy ending and a BAMF Danny moment, but it's just... disturbing.

Other than that, bon appetit, I hope you like them <3<3<3

DPxDC My Brother in the Mirror

Damian doesn't like mirrors.

He never mentioned the fact to other members of the family, but they are detectives and vigilantes, it's their job to be observant. Which, after so many years, becomes a habit.

Damian doesn't actively avoid the mirrors - he has a mirror in his bathroom, he didn't express any discomfort over going into a mirror labyrinth at some carnival they've attended (he expressed disgust over taking part in something so stupid, in his words, but that's a whole another story), and he actually spent a few minutes in front of the funhouse mirrors when no one was looking, watching his own reflection distort in various ways. He also has no problems with his self-image - he doesn't mind pictures of him taken at any time (unless it's Tim, but that's, again, a whole another story), he's drawn a few self-portraits that were rather accurate and he liked them.

He just doesn't like mirrors. For some reason.

His family, both close and extended, never questioned it. They did some gentle research to see if the dislike was caused by some kind of problem Damian was experiencing without telling anyone, but when they found no proof of that, they've just decided it was some quirk of his. Everyone has quirks. Dick doesn't like eating cereal like a normal person, Tim despises sleep, Steph is at war with any color other than purple.

That is, until one day, Tim witnesses Damian sitting in front of a mirror.

He is not even aware of it - the whole family is having a game night, and through some arguments and rearrangements on the couch, Damian ends up sitting on the left side of it, where his back is turned to one of the three mirrors in the room. Tim, who's lost the last round, is slumping in an armchair nearby, pointedly looking away from the screen where Damian and Jason are enthusiastically competing over the first place in Mario Cart. Of course, Tim can't just not watch it since he needs to know their strategies. But turning back around would also be admitting defeat.

The solution? Easy, watch the screen through the mirror.

Which is when he notices it.

Damian in the mirror doesn't act the same as Damian in the room. Out of the corner of his eye, Tim can see the real Damian moving around, shoving Jason with his elbow, fully concentrated on the game, and yelling something. Damian-in-the-mirror is sitting unnaturally still, the back of his head over the couch unmoving.

Tim forgets all about the game when Damian's reflection starts to turn around. Slowly and carefully, eerie in the way the horror movies are, the boy in the mirror turns his head around like an owl, his neck twisting inhumanely.

His eyes are green. Green like the toxic waste, like Jason's madness, like acid in cartoons, like the Waters of Lazarus.

Damian in the mirror smiles, his unblinking, gliwing eyes fixed on Tim, and his teeth are sharp and pointy, and there are too many of them, humans can't smile this wide.

"-im? Tim!" A hand nudges him in the shoulder, and Tim looks away from the mirror, finding Dick standing over him. The noise of the game room returns all at once, and, wait, when did it become quiet for Tim?.. He must have a strange expression on his face because Dick's easy smile falls slightly, and he frowns, "Is everything okay?"

Tim looks back to the mirror, but the green-eyed boy in the mirror is gone, and the mirror only reflects Damian as he is: sitting on the couch.

"Yeah," Tim shakes his head and forces a smile on his lips, "I just zoned out."

"Okay," Dick pats him on the shoulder and gives him the controller, "It's your turn now."

Tim takes the controller and turns around, facing the screen. Tim throws a quick glance at Damian, who had slid down on the couch so his head would not be in the reflection anymore. Tim sees the cold, warning hint to his eye, a clear do not speak of it message.

Tim doesn't like that the mirror is now behind him.

The place I'm working at hired two new people recently, and apparently, I have a funny sneeze that they keep trying to replicate for hours after I ever sneeze or just every time they see me.

It was kind of funny the first few times - yes, I do sneeze like a sprayer, pshhhhhh, ha-ha, very amusing - but it has started being annoying lately. When I politely asked them to stop, they told me it's just funny and I should know how to take a joke, and besides, I was laughing at it before, so I should know it's funny.

Yeah, okay then.

So I, as their senior, told them to go clean the windows today. And every time they sprayed the glass, I kept saying bless you. They laughed a few times in the beginning.

When they were done, I went to the window, looked it over, then said it's not clean enough and made them repeat the process. I have no trouble handling the register and the coffee machine all alone, I've been doing it for months when we were understaffed.

When they were done, I made them do it again. And again.

Overall, they've spent about two and a half hours cleaning the glass, all while I kept saying bless you every time they sprayed the windows. When told it's not funny, I repeated the same shit they told me about taking a joke and how they laughed at it before.

By the third hour, they got the hint and finally apologized, and, thank fuck, next time I sneezed, no pshhhhh came from any of them.

Petty fucking revenge, my beloved.

That is to say, yes, I abused my power over them, yes, I could have tried explaining it in a civil way, but hey, the windows are sparkling clean and if you don't want to be subjected to meaningless labor, then maybe consider not being an asshole.

"So, heard you're gonna go and live with the big bad bat." Damian's neutral scowl deepened at the sound of his voice. Instinctively, his hand flew to rest on the pommel of his sword. "Woah, woah. No need for violence, big bro."

'There was always a need for violence.' Damian thought.

"Aww, is big bro not happy to see me?" He flew around to Damian's front, hands resting under his chin as he smiled at him like all was right in the world. "Honestly, I'm a little hurt."

"What do you want, Daniel." Damian spat out, itching to unsheathe his blade yet restraining himself from doing so. "I don't believe you're here to just send me off."

"What? I can't just check in on my brother on the biggest moment of his life?" Danny asked, sounding so innocent that he was almost believable.

Almost.

Damian's eyes narrowed.

"Eh, ya got me." Danny leaned back in the air and shrugged. "I really don't care that much about you to do that."

"Then why are you here?"

"Well," Danny casually waved a hand. "Just wondering if the big scary shadow man would actually like you."

"What." Damian demanded.

"You know." Danny smirked and tilted his head slightly to the side. "You're a murderer, assassin, pretty evil in the eyes of the law and practically everything the Batman stands against. Plus, not to mention his other children-"

Danny paused when the tip of a sword poked against his throat.

"I am his only true child." Damian spat out.

Danny stared down at him, for a moment, no visible emotion through his eyes and face. One would almost call it unnerving. Yet the moment passed quickly, and the corner of Danny's lips quirked upwards.

"Yea, you made sure of that." Danny began, chuckling as he leaned forwards, metal cutting into skin as toxic green spilled from the wound. "But honestly, we both know you can't kill me anymore."

Damian snorted.

"And we both know you can still feel pain."

Damian arrived at the manor with a small, invisible follower. He knew Daniel was there. He just failed to mention it to anyone.

But Daniel revealed himself to the family sooner than Damian expected he would. When Damian tried to kill Tim Drake, Daniel blocked Damian’s very first blow before it could land.

“Sorry, Damian. I’m not letting you add to the sibling death toll.”

“Daniel, get out of my way,” Damian snarled.

“No,” Danny replied, completely ignoring the green blood running down his arm as he held the blade of Damian’s sword in a tight grip.

“Who… who are you?” Tim asked.

“Daniel. Damian’s dead younger brother.”

“What?” Bruce asked, his voice broken.

“Yeah. Hi, dad. Damian killed me. I wouldn’t hold it against him; he’s a brainwashed assassin. My death at least gave me the chance to speak to other ghosts, who are actually normal people, so I know better. But he’s still brainwashed.”

“I am not brainwashed,” Damian hissed, putting his full weight behind the sword as it cut into Danny’s hand. Danny, who now had super strength and could hold the blade in place even if it was slicing him up, didn’t budge.

“You tried to kill Tim,” Danny pointed out.

“Because I am the only rightful heir!” Damian exclaimed.

“And what makes you think you deserve that title?” Danny shouted back, finally dropping the casual demeanor. “You MURDERED me! And you think you deserve the mantle of the Bat, who does not kill? You aren’t even fit to be Robin, and Batman didn’t even create Robin in the first place - I heard the role was created by a child with murder on his mind! And yet, you can’t even understand how unworthy for it you are! You killed me in cold blood!”

“I did what I had to! You were too soft! You would’ve destroyed the League! Murdering you before you could tear the place apart was the correct choice!”

Danny turned intangible, and Damian, who been putting his full weight behind the blade, fell forward, enough that Danny was able to hit him in the back of the head with an elbow and knock him out.

“You will never be Robin, Damian. Not until you learn,” he told the unconscious boy. “I will make sure of it.”

Danny turned to Tim. “Sorry about that. Until he learns to stop murdering people, consider me your personal bodyguard. Because he won’t stop trying.”

Tim nodded, still looking confused and fearful.

Bruce, meanwhile, looked at Danny with a heartbroken expression.

“You’re my son? And you died before I could meet you?” Bruce asked.

Danny turned to him and nodded. “Yes, sir.”

Bruce stepped forward. “Since you can catch a sword… can I hug you?”

Danny smiled. “Yes, you can.”

Thesis: Jason is actually mildly affectionate towards Damian, or at least generally tolerates him as a family member

Fact 1: Jason calls Damian 'Demon Brat' (not sure if it's fanon or canon, I think I've seen a research post about Batfamily nicknames somewhere but I can't find it right now)

Fact 2: Jason speaks Russian (I'm pretty sure this is canon, I've seen mentions of it)

Fact 3: In Russian, the word 'брат' [brat] means 'brother', literally, and 'demon' is pronounced and spelled the same way as in English, 'демон' [dæmon], so 'demon brat' would translate to 'demon brother'

Conclusion: No conclusion, do with this information what you will
