when tv shows randomly add white cishit straight dudes to their show
We’re getting a Bananaman movie before a Wonder Woman movie.
Merlin 5x13
This, but genuinely on my life need a support group or something because I went to sleep for a few hours but woken up now and feel empty and horrible, frankly suicidal again (not as extreme as Sunday but the fact it's Christmas is making me feel worse since I love Christmas but can't enjoy it) because of my life/general depression but also Merlin and I just feel terrible and disappointed and I can't stop thinking about the millions of ways I wish it had been done differently over years, and how perfect it could have been.
I just realised that the ~message of 'Merlin' must be that you should follow your good-person instincts rather than listen to stupid fucking old people/dragons/prophets, or you yourself slowly turn into a stupid fucking old person/dragon/prophet/I don't even know.
Because pretty much literally every single thing that went wrong ever was because Merlin listened to Gaius, the Dragon, dumb magic people, all of whom he followed against his better judgement. And the things he went against he didn't go against ENOUGH (or it was clearly a dumb thing to do; why can't he just follow the GOOD advice jfc), so it all just failed anyway.
Goddamn this show. Getting me all worked up at Christmas!
No-one wanted that ending. NO. ONE.
Too invested and now I crumble.
SOMEONE MAKE THIS OKAYYYYYY
I know this isn't just about Merlin but I get so attached to shows and fiction and am such a perfectionist and I can't with anything
ETA: Tumblr is my therapy. So glad I just reblogged a load of Merlin stuff and people's reactions etc.
I know Moff's (mostly!) joking but Dean Leysen answered an Ask the other day about this kind of thing and I think it's interesting to add here:
I think people are often too quick to judge something as censorship or as violating their freedom of speech, actually. Sure, freedom of speech is important, just as freedom of religion is important, but when you start using offensive language or try to be verbally abusive to other people, and get punished for it, that’s not against freedom of speech, that’s ‘for’ being decent human beings. So many times have I seen people’s posts or threads locked on forums because they for instance called a disabled person a “f***ing retard” or started slinging racial slurs or random insults, only to then come crying that they’ve been censored. Freedom of speech is about being allowed the ability to have and state your opinion, but it doesn’t imply that other people need to tolerate being attacked for example, or that you can get away with anything. In that sense I don’t think it should be ‘absolute’ but it should be reasoned, it should be sensible, based on equality and empathy at the same time.
Reminds me of what Caitlin Moran says in 'How to Be a Woman' re "political correctness gone mad", saying "political correctness" is just "formalised politeness".
Back to Moff though, I wish he'd listen to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, because as much as I love him and think he's brilliant, he really is ignorant about some important things.
