Okay I understand your rage about lack of Peeta generally/him being an active character, but in terms of Everlark vs. Everthorne, Catching Fire is definitely weighted towards Everthorne. The whole I am his he is mine business is in that one if I remember correctly. And yes, those of us who have read the books know that Everlark is better/endgame, but for those who haven’t read the books, it makes sense that the movies follow the path of the books and give Everthorne some focus.
Also the trailer really only showed early parts of the book before the Quell, where Gale is more important, because they don’t want to give away the twist about the Quell which might help explain lack of Finnick.
This isn’t really a question. Sorry.
I appreciate your message, but, um, no, Catching Fire was definitely not weighted toward Everthorne. At all. I’m sorry, but it just wasn’t. Catching Fire is when Katniss falls in love with Peeta—she has to because by the time Mockingjay starts, Peeta’s gone, and she’s a fucking mess and because she loves him and he’s gone. That’s it, that’s when she falls in love with him, through the Victory Tour and after, preparing for the Quell. Gale is mostly absent through half the book. Yes, we start to see how Gale could be a potential love interest in this book, definitely, but to say that there’s more Everthorne in CF, I’m sorry, I disagree wholeheartedly.
I don’t think it makes any sense to disregard Everlark and Peeta in CF just for Everthorne/Gale’s sake. We have to know why she falls in love with Peeta in this movie for her to be so destroyed by the time MJ comes out!
I don’t understand why people don’t remember what happens AFTER the “Gale is mine, I am his” bit (emphasis added):
Someone they love. The words numb my tongue as if it’s been packed in snow coat. Of course, I love Gale. But what kind of love does she mean? What do I mean when I say I love Gale? I don’t know. I did kiss him last night, in a moment when my emotions were running so high. But I’m sure he doesn’t remember it. Does he? I hope not. If he does, everything will just get more complicated and I really can’t think about kissing when I’ve got a rebellion to incite. I give my head a little shake to clear it. “Where’s Peeta?” I say.
I am overwhelmed by the romance of a kiss that Katniss doesn’t want Gale to remember.
And can I just add that after she wakes up after the “Gale is mine and I am his” scene, she wants Peeta’s arms around her and then realises she isn’t supposed to want that anymore.
