Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Chapter 17: Cat, Rat and Dog
“What’s my rat got to do with anything?” “That’s not a rat,” croaked Sirius Black suddenly. “What d’you mean — of course he’s a rat —” “No, he’s not,” said Lupin quietly. “He’s a wizard.” “An Animagus,” said Black, “by the name of Peter Pettigrew.”
My most favorite scene in entire Harry Potter series.
‘The garden was his escape, his sanctuary, it seems it was the only thing he could create that was beautiful. For an hour, maybe even two, he could spend time in the sunlight, feel the fresh air in his lungs and breath in the life around him. As much as he loved the mystery of the forest and and all it concealed, he was its prisoner. But here he had ownership, he had control. He decided what blossomed, what died and what was deemed beautiful. In these hours he could forget all about the fact that the King was issuing a hunt for the towns werewolf, he could forget all about the Prince and that damned red cloak he insisted on wearing, even though Remus knew his secret. Yes, he thought, as he watered the hyacinths, the smell of lavender lingering on his clothes, here was his refuge from his almost sinful thoughts about Prince Sirius of House Black.’
Words by @sirius-brat. This is a fairytale au Li and I are working on. We’re super pumped about it, I’m sure I’ll have more drawings of it soon!
Do you ever cry because you think of Remus Lupin during the First War being convinced that he was right the whole time because even after years of his friends insisting that they saw him as more than a werewolf that was what it came down to when they started suspecting him

They saw James for a second.
THIS IS NOT OK.
Sometimes I hate this website.
remus/sirius!
yall know me so well
when sirius first realises that he Likes remus (with help from lily. so much help from lily) the first place he goes is the library. he knows remus spends more time there than would be considered normal for a boy his age so sirius goes there. he wants to read some of remus’ favourite books so he goes to the librarian. he tries to be subtle about it but she knows what’s up, instantly. it goes sort of like “so. remus sent me here. remus, you know him? sort of this height. light brown hair, green eyes. hangs here all the time. anyway, he sent me here. he asked me, sirius, to go here. and pick up a book. he asked me specifically to go here. and ask u. to pull the records. and hand me the 10 books he’s borrowed most times. and bring them back to him. he asked me for that. i’m here because he asked me. to do that. he asked me.”
remus walks into the dorm and finds sirius lying in a weird position on his bed reading one of the books and he starts laughing and sirius looks up at him, arching an eyebrow. when he finally stops all he can get out is “you’re reading. you. are reading. why on earth are you reading war and peace? what’s going on. is this a prank. JAMES! where’s james? is this a joke???”
sirius looks offended. “i read,” he says. “what exactly is your point?” remus just stares at him. he doesn’t say anything but his gaze says everything for him. sirius black, you don’t fucking read. stop lying. what’s going on.
sirius closes the book and sits up. he doesn’t know what to say because he can’t very well go about admitting why he’s reading, can he? so he picks up the other question remus launched at him and starts talking about james. “james is with peter. writing love poems. like the pathetic loser he is. tell me again why we’re friends with him?”
remus just mutters a “you tell me” under his breath and dumps down on his own bed, picking up a book. sirius looks at him for awhile while he’s reading and he realises just how incredibly fucking gone he is. he picks up war and peace again but he ends up just reading the same paragraph over and over again. why does remus lupin happen to good people.
for the 5 headcanons: college au remus/sirius
remus is taking a double major in gender studies and english lit. lots of people think it’s a weird combination but he loves it. his two main passions? incredible. sirius studies drama. (it started as a joke, actually. sirius was freaking out about what he was going to study and james asked “why don’t you study drama, you fucking drama queen. the course on how to ascend to a higher plane of gay is probably filled.” somehow, sirius thought it didn’t sound all too bad so here he was.)
sirius also works part time in a local coffee shop. he has to earn for a living somehow. he hasn’t spoken to his family since he was 15 and taking up contact and asking for help is nowhere on his to do list. he is Over them.
one rainy day remus stumbles into the shop looking like a drowned puppy. sirius takes pity on him (or more likely: he thinks he’s hot and want to, you know, get into his pants) and gives a coffee on the house. remus insist he can’t accept that. sirius insists he has to. remus says no. sirius says then if he really want to pay he can buy one for him.
remus obliges, not fully realising that sirius is flirting. there’s nobody else there so they sit down by a table and sirius asks all the standard question. what’s your name. where are you from. what’re you studying. when remus says what he’s studying remus arches his eyebrow and his interest is awoken. gender studies. “so what’s your gender, mr lupin?” he asks, straight-forward. “who knows, really,” remus says. “i think i turned it off at some point to conserve energy.”
sirius spits out coffee laughing. remus asks what he’s studying and he tells. “oh,” remus says. “so i’m talking to a future broadway star?” “duh,” sirius says. “i’m going straight for hollywood. get in loser.” remus just looks at him and just then sirius thinks he might want just a little more than one fuck out of this dude.
I have this theory that Neville is supposed to represent everything that Peter could have been. You know, both of them were the weak link in the friend group, the guy easily influenced. But instead, Rowling made Neville weak to prove the two paths an individual could take. How each of our weaknesses manifest in different ways. Peter’s weakness made him a villain, ultimately worse than Voldemort because he betrayed his friends, while Neville’s weakness made him work harder and in the end made him Harry’s strongest ally.
Harry = James, Ron = Sirius, Hermione = Remus, Neville = Peter, Ginny = Lily, Luna = Snape.
You will notice that none of the six from the old generation survived. The kids each have traits from the old generation but they’re here to fix the past, and thus must survive the series to metaphorically right the past. Some may raise their eyebrows at Luna as Snape, but just as Harry represents James (the popular kid who was good at quidditch, but didn’t become arrogant like his father) or like Peter and Neville (two people who could have been cowards, but Neville rises to life’s challenges) Luna mirrors Snape in being mocked, a pariah, Looney Lovegood and Snivellus. Instead of being resentful, she rose above it, and loved herself regardless.
If you went with Harry to the Ministry of Magic in book 5, you mattered beyond just backing him up against Voldemort. This core six represented the loss and failure of the Marauders generation, and the hopes of a post-Voldemort future.
Holy shit

it’s important to acknowledge that remus had to grow up too fast and sirius never had a chance to grow up at all
and remus was constantly trying to get back to his childhood while sirius didn’t know how to escape it
girls don’t want boyfriends girls want a seven book series about the marauders’ life at hogwarts
