As mad as I am about Jaime’s character I’m even madder about what they did to Gwendoline Christie.
Here’s an actress who has really struggled to get serious roles and this was her first time as a love interest in what I’m sure was billed to her as a great love story between Brienne and Jaime and then they did THIS.
They gave her a love scene and then immediately afterwards had her love interest regret it. They got none of the tenderness or love that was promised all along between them, the way it plays onscreen is that within seconds of her being naked apparently he is dissatisfied. And in the same episode takes it all back and leaves her. That’s how they played it, for this gender non-conforming female character. That’s horrible. That’s horrible.
And because Gwen is a total pro she showed up and played the hell out of it anyway even though she was completely robbed of what should have been her big moment as a romantic lead and she went to all of those interviews and she bit her tongue and played along even though I have to imagine she was hopping mad.
Well, I’m mad anyway. I’m so mad, you guys. I’m so mad.
Gwendoline Christie, you were wonderful in this role and Game of Thrones did not deserve you. You deserved actual storylines for Brienne where you got to have a part in the plot of the show and not be shoved into the background, and you deserved for the one storyline they gave you to deliver on all of the promise that we fans have been enjoying all this time. You did a wonderful job playing that story and we love you for it. We loved “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” and thank you for giving us that. You deserve an Emmy for your performance as this character and I hope you get it. I hope you get roles actually deserving of how talented you are and that we get to watch you acting in major roles for many years to come. Your star’s gonna shine so bright, I just know it.
